Here is what’s happening in the Parkland! 

Operation Christmas Child Boxes are now available in the Ste.Rose area at Super Thrifty store and the Thrift-O Rama Store. Please help put a smile on a child's face this Christmas, and pick up a box or more to fill before November 17, so it can be sent to a needy child somewhere in the world. 

The Dauphin Friendship Center is offering Coats for Kids at their front entrance, come in and choose warm outerwear for your children, as a chilly winter is expected. 

The Community of Dauphin is encouraged to support “Adopt A Family” thisChristmas, you can help fill a hamper for a local family in need this Christmas, for more information on how you can help out with this local fundraising initiative, please call Laverne at 638-6013 or Florence at 638-3063.  

The Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba is hosting grief and loss support meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Dauphin Senior Center, starting at 1:30. 

The Dauphin Food Bank is always in need of non perishable food items. Any and all donations are needed including canned soups, pasta sauce, dry pasta, canned meat and fish,dry cereal, oatmeal, brown beans. fruit juices, mac and cheese, canned fruit, and canned tomatoes. Please drop off your items at the collection bin at Safeway, or you can arrange for drop off at the food bank by calling 638-7853. Please check your food donations for best before and expiry dates before donating. 

The Dauphin Community Food Bank will provide food for those in need on specific days each month, be sure to bring your Manitoba Health Card when applying food assistance. You can get food once every four weeks. The Dauphin food bank is located at Parkland Crossing, intake days are on the following Thursdays, from 5pm to 8pm.  Nov 23, Dec 7, Dec 21, and Jan 4. 

Walking Wednesdays are back at Credit Union Place in Dauphin! The Dauphin Rotary Club is sponsoring a free day of walking at the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy walking track at Credit Union Place each Wednesday until April 25th. 

Tickets for Dauphin's Countryfest 2018 are now available! You can get your tickets in person at the Countryfest Office in Dauphin, call 1-800-361-7300, or order online at www.countryfest.ca. Countryfest Returns to Dauphin July Long weekend 2018, and will feature  Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church, The Road Hammers, James Barker Band, Dallas Smith, Aaron Pritchett, Luke Combs, Aaron Goodvin, High Valley, Paul Brandt, Emerson Drive and more to come!

NOVEMBER EVENTS  

November is domestic awareness month, and you are encouraged to help theParkland Crisis Center in their efforts to collect new socks and underwear to victims experiencing domestic violence.  They are collecting new socks and underwear for Women, Children, and Men. You can drop these off at Sharon’s Lingerie, Catalyst Credit Union, Bell MTS in the Mall, Dauphin Library, First United Church and Three Graces Beauty Boutique. 

You are invited to a Christmas Ornament Making Event on Saturday, November 18th at 2pm at the Ochre River Community Hall.  This is a family and friends event.  The cost is $5 per person.  Please pre-register as soon as possible by calling (204)447-2154 so that the organizers can make sure there are enough craft supplies.  Snacks are included.

The Rotary Club of Dauphin is hosting their Book Fair at the Dauphin Marketplace Mall, on now until Saturday November 18, buy, read, and donate! Gently used book donations are appreciated, please no textbooks or encyclopedia’s. Funds raised help community projects in Dauphin and area. 

Eastside Furniture in Dauphin will host their Ladies Night – Winter Wonderland on Thursday November 16, from 6pm to 8:30pm. Come out and enjoy a fun festive evening with friends, browse the store while enjoying snacks and beverages. There will also be exclusive one night sales, free draws, photo booth, and a new line of Christmas Décor to be unveiled. 

The Gilbert Plains Co-op is hosting Equity Days on Thursday November 16 and Friday November 17, stop by for coffee and donuts, and spin the discount wheel to save 5 to 50% on eligible purchases at the Agro Center or the Service Station. Checks based on 25% of allocation are available for pick up from the administration office only. 

You are encouraged to support a bake sale fundraiser at the DauphinMarketplace Mall on Friday November 17, from 9am to 1pm in support of the St Viator’s Women’s League. 

Enjoy another edition of the Dauphin Kings One Hour Power Play Program on CKDM, on Friday November 17th, starting at 4pm. We will get you ready for the home game that night against Portage. The Dauphin Kings one hour power play on CKDM starts at 4pm and its brought to you by Embroidery by Design, Remax of Dauphin, and Ruff's (roof's) Furniture and Appliances.

The Grandview Drop in Center is hosting a perogy and sausage supper fundraiser on Friday November 17, from 4:30 to 7pm. Only $10 admission. 

In conjunction with Festive Friday in Roblin, enjoy the Parade of Lights onFriday November 17, starting at 6:30pm. Enter a float and light it up as much as possible. For more information and to enter a float call 204-937-3194. Line up at the arena at 6pm. 

The Ste.Rose Rec Commission is hosting a Paint Nite on Friday November 17, starting at 7pm in the lobby of the Ste.Rose Curling Complex. Admission is only $30 which includes a beverage. The Dauphin Kings are in action at home against the Portage Terriers at Credit Union Place on Friday November 17th, game time is 7:30pm. This is the special 50th Anniversary Game. 

We welcome all the teams, visitors and guests to Gilbert Plains for the Atom Single A Hockey Tournament Friday November 17 to Sunday November 19, good luck to all of the teams participating and welcome to the Parkland. 

The community of Gilbert Plains is fundraising for a Splash Park, and they are looking for your support! They are hosting a fundraising community social evening on Friday November 17th at the Gilbert Plains Community Hall starting at 9pm. There will be various fundraising activities to be held throughout the evening along with great music and a lot of fun! Get tickets and more info about the event by calling 204-648-4747. 

Dave Boziak from the Dauphin and District Community Foundation will be in the CKDM Studio on Saturday Morning November 18th to speak with Alec Woolston about the 24 hour giving challenge. 

For one day only, on Saturday November 18th, gifts made to the Dauphin & District Community Foundation’s unrestricted fund will be stretched by The Winnipeg Foundation ($1 for every $5 donated). This is the Endow Manitoba 24 Hour Giving Challenge. New this year, the Province of Manitoba will also stretch each $5 gift by $1. This means every $5 gift becomes $7. The DDCF can receive a maximum of $2,000 each in stretch from The Winnipeg Foundation and from the Province of Manitoba. That's potentially an extra $4,000! Shoal Lake will host their 36th Annual Christmas Craft mart on Saturday November 18, from 10am to 4pm at the community hall, over 59 exhibitors and vendors, and over 40 door prizes. For more info call 204-759-3392. 

Enjoy the Roblin Christmas Craft Sale on Saturday November 18, 10am to 4pm at the Roblin Community Center and Evangelical Mission Church. Admission is only a toonie, over 100 vendors, with $100 door prize. 

The Grandview Community Foundation is hosting a 24 hour giving challenge along with Endow Manitoba on Saturday November 18, from 10am to 2pm at Grandview Home Hardware and the Parkway Consumers Coop. Consider a gift to your local community foundation and invest in the future of your hometown. 

St Paul's Anglican Church in Dauphin will host their fall tea and bake sale fundraiser in their basement hall on Saturday November 18th, from 2pm to 4pm. Stop by for tea, finger sandwiches and some tasty baked goods. 

The Intermountain Snowmobile Club will host their Annual Snow Ball Dinner and Social Evening on Saturday November 18, at the GKCC in Grandview! The evening will also feature a silent auction and raffle fundraisers. The Watson Art Center in Dauphin is hosting a fundraising “Adopt A Work of Art Sale” on Saturday November 18 starting at 7pm, and they are accepting any and all art donations to this sale, please drop off your donations to the Watson Art Center Monday to Friday between 12noon and 5pm. Art accepted includes; stained glass, sculpture, quilting, photographs, watercolours, acrylics and oils, etc. The evening will also feature some live music from the DRCSS Senior Band and Dauphin Community Band, also a sweet and savoury cupcake bar, with refreshments and a raffle as well. The amalgamation vote for the merger between Catalyst Credit Union and Vanguard Credit Union will take place at various locations on Tuesday November 21, registration is at 6pm, and the meeting and vote will be at 7pm. The Parkland Locations include the following: In Dauphin at the DRCSS Multi-purpose room, at the Ethelbert School Multi-Purpose Room, also at the Roblin Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room, and at the Winnipegosis Elementary School Auditorium at the South End.

The Parkland Humane Society is  once again hosting their Paws-a-bility fundraising luncheon in Dauphin on Saturday November 25, at the Parkland Rec Complex in the Lions Den, starting at 11am. This event will feature a guest speaker, raffle prizes, and lunch. Tickets are only $10 each, and are avilable in advance from any board member and also from the animal shelter as well.

The Burrows Trail Arts Council of McCreary 2017-2018 Concert series continues ‘Whole Lotta Angus” AC/DC Tribute show on Saturday November 25, there’s the Comedy Festival Show in January, also the Codie Prevost Country show on March 17, and the Maple Syrup Festival Supper and performance on Friday April 8.  Tickets are available for each show, or save money by purchase the entire series. St Viator’s Catholic Church in Dauphin is hosting a special presentation from Ken Yasinski on Sunday November 26 and Monday November 27, 7pm each evening. All are invited to attend.

Healthy Together Now and the Dauphin Friendship Center are hosting a Food Safe Certificate Program on Thursday December 7, from 9am to 5pm, at the DFC Youth Center. For more information on how to participate in this free event, please call Pam at 622-4189. Deadline to register is November 27.

Prairie Supply Co in Dauphin is hosting a Clothing Release Party for Blackbeard on Thursday November 30 at 7pm. Blackbeard is a clothing line designed and printed locally, right here in Dauphin. You can come out for the event and enjoy a live DJ and some pancakes, and save the tax at the event. 

The Sifton Community Center is hosting their Annual General Meeting onThursday November 30, starting at 7:30pm, all are welcome to attend. 

 

DECEMBER EVENTS  

The Dauphin RIDE Program (Reducing Impaired Drivers Everywhere) will return for its 27th year this holiday season! Running each Friday and  Saturday evening,  December 1st to 23rd and also on New Year’s Eve from 9pm to 3am. If you have your vehicle with you, and you are out celebrating with a few drinks, call for a safe ride home for both you and your vehicle, Call 638-5707. If you don’t have your vehicle with you, your best option is to call a taxi, or arrange for a designated driver. The Dauphin RIDE Program will provide a safe trip home for both you and your vehicle after an evening of celebration, don’t drink and drive, call RIDE at 638-5707.

The Ste.Rose Recreation Commission is hosting a winter homemade craft sale on Saturday December 2, from 11am to 3pm, this will take place at the Ste.Rose Arena in the lobby. Fort Dauphin Museum will once again be having "Christmas at the Fort" onSaturday December 2nd from 1pm to 4pm. Admission is free and there will be a Silver Collection at the door.
