Here is what’s happening in the Parkland!

The Dauphin Food Bank is always in need of non perishable food items. Any and all donations are needed including canned soups, pasta sauce, dry pasta, canned meat and fish,dry cereal, oatmeal, brown beans. fruit juices, mac and cheese, canned fruit, and canned tomatoes. Please drop off your items at the collection bin at Safeway, or you can arrange for drop off at the food bank by calling 638-7853. Please check your food donations for best before and expiry dates before donating. 

The Dauphin Community Food Bank will provide food for those in need on specific days each month, be sure to bring your Manitoba Health Card when applying food assistance. You can get food once every four weeks. The Dauphin food bank is located at Parkland Crossing, intake days are on the following Thursdays, from 5pm to 8pm.  Oct 26, Nov 9, Nov 23, Dec 7, Dec 21, and Jan 4. 

Walking Wednesdays are back at Credit Union Place in Dauphin! The Dauphin Rotary Club is sponsoring a free day of walking at the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy walking track at Credit Union Place each Wednesday until April 25th. 

Tickets for Dauphin's Countryfest 2018 are now available for members! Tickets for the general public go on sale on Monday November 6th, you can get your tickets in person at the Countryfest Office in Dauphin, call 1-800-361-7300, or order online at www.countryfest.ca. Countryfest Returns to Dauphin July Long weekend 2018, and will feature  Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church, The Road Hammers, James Barker Band, Dallas Smith, Aaron Pritchett, Luke Combs, Aaron Goodvin, High Valley, Paul Brandt, Emerson Drive and more to come! 

Early Bird weekend passes for Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival go on sale Monday December 4! Purchase your weekend passes in advance and save money! Only $85 plus processing fees and taxes! OCTOBER EVENTS

Get your tickets for the Montreal Canadians Alumni Tour, in Brandon at Westman Place on Thursday November 30! They will be participating in a charity game against Wheat King Alumni, BU Hockey Alumni, and many other local hockey fanatics and legends. The Montreal Canadians Alumni team is made up of some of the “Habs” most loved players over the years. Tickets are $20, $30 and $95 for VIP Tickets which includes a pre-game meal a Hockey House and meet greet with the Montreal Canadians Alumni before the game. The Dauphin Kings and Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual have teamed up to bring you Human Bubble Soccer!  It’s happening at BOTH King’s home games on Friday October 20 and Saturday October 21.  Teams of 4 will battle it out for 5 minutes on the ice during the second intermission! Enjoy Manitoba Showcase, it’s an arts conference in Russell on now until Sunday October 22. This event features workshops for non-profit organizations, a visual arts exhibition of prairie artists and 17 different performances and many other events.  Showcase Artists include Dauphin’s own Desiree Dorion, along with Don Amero and Renee Lameroux. There will be a table set up at the Dauphin Marketplace Mall on Friday October 20 from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday October 21 from 10:30am to 5pm, volunteers on site will be collecting Halloween Candy for under privileged youth in Churchill Manitoba, there is little to no candy up North due to the damaged rail line, so volunteers will be collecting and delivering candy to be flown in for a special event in Churchill on October 27th. You are invited to a Coffee House Fundraiser at the Dauphin Friendship Center on Friday October 20, starting at 7pm. Come out sing, dance, meet, up with friends, and have a great time. Enjoy another Riverhaus Manitoba Home Routes Concert in Dauphin at 419 River Avenue on Friday October 20, featuring Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards. Doors open at 7pm, admission is $20 per person. Bring your own beverage and refreshments, kids under 12 are free.

Once again this year the Dauphin Girl Guides are hosting their Haunted House fundraiser at the Selo (Saw-Law) site just south of DauphinFri October 20, Saturday October 21, and Friday Oct 27 to Monday Oct 30. Each evening from 7 to 9pm, admission is only $2 per person. 

The Dauphin Kings One Hour Power Play Program will return on Friday October 20th as we get you ready for the Kings Home Game against the  Winnipeg Blues at Credit Union Place. Friends of the Riding Mountain National Park will host their annual fright night in the Riding Mountain National Park at the visitor center on Saturday October 21 from 7pm to 9:30pm, take part in kids Halloween games and movies, and guided tours, with scary clown zones. The Dauphin Kings are in action at Credit Union Place at home against the Winkler Flyers on Saturday October 21st, game time is 7:30pm. Come out and support our local MJHL team against the flyers.

Come up to the Selo (Sah-law) Hall Market Fest, just south of Dauphin on highway number 10, on Sunday October 22. You will find a wide selection of antiques, household items, jewelry, candles, books, homemade hancrafted products, and so much more, if you wish to participate as a vendor, you can rent tables by calling 638-6972. Prairie Mountain Health and CKDM reminds you the Annual Fall Flu Shot Campaign within the Parkland Region will begin October 23, and it will be available to all Manitobans free of charge! It offers protection against three seasonal flu strains! Listen very closely to CKDM each weekday morning at 8:25 and 10:15! We will announce flu shot clinics being offered that day, and the following day within the Parkland Region. The Dauphin Senior Centre is hosting an Intergenerational Step-Safe walk with grade 1 & 2 Henderson School Students, Thursday October 26 at 10 am.  They will be walking on Main Street, the students mark any tripping hazard with chalk and the seniors will record the location. The Burrows Trail Arts Council of McCreary will host their 2017-2018 Concert series starting with the Doug Arden Ventriloquist Comedy show on Thursday October 26, also enjoy a ‘Whole Lotta Angus” AC/DC Tribute show on Saturday November 25, there’s the Comedy Festival Show in January, also the Codie Prevost Country show on March 17, and the Maple Syrup Festival Supper and performance on Friday April 8.  Tickets are available for each show, or save money by purchase the entire series. The Dauphin Rotary Club is one again hosting their Annual Wine Tasting Evening on Friday October 27, from 7pm to 10pm upstairs at the Parkland Rec Complex. The evening will feature some fine wines from around the world, along with cheeses, deli products, breads and chocolates provided by the Dauphin Co-op. You are encouraged to support the Spaghetti Supper family fun night at the Ste.Rose Hall on Saturday October 28, starts at 5:30pm, supper is from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This is a fundraiser in support of the Grotto Restoration Project. There will be a costume contest, scary pumpkin contest, min games, prizes, 50/50, and more. Author and musician Tia McGraff will be at the Dauphin Library on Saturday October 28, for a book reading and performance, starting at 10:30am. She will be reading from her children’s book called “Jake the Road Dog” based on her own adoption of a rescue dog who sometimes travels with her. A special guest at the reading will be a dog provided by reading co-sponsor, Uptown Pet Clinic. It is a great chance to talk about pet adoptions as well. 

Calling all artists! Dauphin Rec Services is offering a Paverpol workshop on Saturday, October 28th from 10am to 4pm, upstairs at the Rotary Arena. You will create one of "your kind" sculptures that you can use indoors or outdoors to beautify your home or garden. Come and try this unique and exciting art form called Paverpol-- a liquid polymer textile hardener with benefits! The Fork River Local of the Manitoba Women’s Institute is hosting their Annual Community Market at the Fork River Hall on Saturday, October 28, from 11am to 3pm. NOVEMBER EVENTS  

The Ethelbert Community Fund will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary on Wednesday November 1 at the Parish Hall, doors open at 5:30, fall supper at 6, program begins at 7:15. There will also be a rainbow auction and 50/50 on site. Tickets are $15 each, age 5 and under are free. These tickets are available from various businesses and also by calling 204-638-0041.  

Theatre Amisk, Dauphin's premiere theatre group returns with another great performance at the Watson Art Center in Dauphin, featuring Ken Ludwig's Comedy of Tenors, with performances on Thursday November 2nd, Friday November 3rd, and also on  Saturday November 4th. Get your tickets for this show from the Watson Art Center in Dauphin.

The Dauphin Public Library will host a meet the author event on Friday November 3rd, starting at 2pm. The author is Christine Hanlon, and the book is entitled “Out of Old Manitoba’s Kitchens”. It’s tells the story of our provinces early inhabitants through the foods they prepared. Christine will also be at the Roblin Library on November 4th at 11am, and the Grandview Library on the 4th at 2pm. The Ochre River Drama Club presentation of "Much Ado Out West" will take place Friday, November 3 and Saturday November 4th at  7pm and Sunday November 5th at 2pm. The Dauphin Fire Fighters Ball is the longest running social event in Dauphin and it will be held on Saturday November 4th. The Dauphin RIDE Program (Reducing Impaired Drivers Everywhere) will return for its 27th year this holiday season! Running each Friday and  Saturday evening,  December 1st to 23rd and also on New Year’s Eve from 9pm to 3am. If you have your vehicle with you, and you are out celebrating with a few drinks, call for a safe ride home for both you and your vehicle, Call 638-5707. If you don’t have your vehicle with you, your best option is to call a taxi, or arrange for a designated driver.
