Health Minister Sharon Blady (Front) announces the new Ste Rose primary health care facility. Also shown is Dauphin MLA Stan Struthers (Left), MARFD Minister Ron Kostyshyn (Centre), and Prairie Mountain Health CEO Penny Gilson (Right)

The first took place in Ste Rose, where the province announced the construction of a new primary health care centre in the town.

Blady says $3.6 million will go towards the new facility, which will see the town get its own nurse practitioner.

She says the project will bring a large economic impact in the community.

"It's going to bring construction, it's going to be doing some infrastructure. It's also going to have an economic draw in the sense that, I do believe that this will provide a stronger base and a stronger anchor in terms of the long term recruitment and retention of health care professionals."

In the second declaration of the day, the Dauphin Regional Health Centre will be getting an MRI unit. The 2,500 square foot facility, upon completion, would have the capacity for up to 3,750 exams every year.

Dauphin RM Reeve Dennis Forbes says the service will do a lot of good for those needing an MRI.

"For those that need the service, it's going to be huge. The number of trips out of town from this area caught me off guard...one never knows, at any given time, it might be you or I that need this service, and to have it here, it's going to be awesome."

The Dauphin MRI unit is currently in the tender process, while work on the Ste Rose primary health care facility is set to start on Monday. The province hopes both projects will be completed sometime early next year.
