President George Carriere says mild temperatures and low precipitation meant there were not a whole lot of chances for people to take their snowmobiles out.

Despite the mild winter, however, Carriere says there was at least one good part of the season this year. The Snowmobile club offered free permits for the February long weekend, which could come back.

"You didn't need to pay for a permit pass to ride the groomed trails, all you had to do was get a permit. It didn't cost anything. You print it off and you have it with you. You ride the groomed trails that weekend for no cost. They're going to do that again to entice people to get out and ride the trails.

While the snowmobile season is over for the year, that does not mean the club is just going to pack up until winter starts again.

"Our club does some fundraising throughout the summer. We work a bar at Countryfest to raise some money to help pay for the daily expenses of the groomer and what not."

At the Volunteer and Landowner Appreciation Night a couple of weeks ago, Carriere says they raised about $1,400 for the club.
