The city will be holding an Aboriginal Firefighters Convention featuring a number of educational sessions including the safe landings of STARS helicopters.

Community Education Leader and Flight Paramedic for STARS Air Ambulance, Troy Pauls says the sessions main initiative is to teach firefighters about STARS procedures during an emergency.

He said, "We use firefighters around the province to get the helicopters safely on the ground, to identify hazards, set up a safe spot for the helicopter to land and then find the right radio channel to communicate with the pilots and give them a landing zone briefing."

Pauls further added that the main goal towards all these procedures is to administer help quicker to patients.

STARS currently operates from three bases in Alberta, two bases in Saskatchewan and one base in Manitoba.
