NICK CARTER - DENIES RAPE ALLEGATION

Nick Carter says he didn't do it. And he says he's ``shocked and saddened'' that someone said he did. ``It,'' in this case, is rape. And the allegation is being made by Melissa Schuman of the girl group Dream. She writes in a blog post that Carter had sex with her against her will. She says Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys _ took her virginity when she was 18 and he was 22. Carter says everything the two of them did _ was consensual.

RUSSELL SIMMONS - DENIES SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATION

Consensual _ not violent. That is how Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons describes the sexual relationship between himself and model Keri Claussen Khalighi. But the model sees things differently, accusing Simmons of sexually assaulting her in 1991. In a letter written to The Hollywood Reporter, he says he loathes any kind of violence _ and suggests the model's allegations may have stemmed from her feeling ashamed.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - GRAMMYS

A lot of people won't forget how his part in the infamous ``wardrobe malfunction'' nearly ruined the Super Bowl more than a decade ago. But did you know Justin Timberlake once stepped in to help save the 2009 Grammys? That was the year Chris Brown dropped out of the show hours before it was supposed to start. So Timberlake decided to get hold of veteran Grammy producer _ and they improvised a piece featuring Timberlake performing with soul legend, Al Green.

TRACE ADKINS - MARDI GRAS

Country music star Trace Adkins will serve as grand marshal for the Krewe of Centaur's 2018 Mardi Gras parade in Shreveport. Adkins is a native of Sarepta, Louisiana _ and he says he will visit with fans as he travels along the parade route.

The party takes place Saturday, Feb. 8th.

DIPLO - TRAVEL

Globe-trotting star Diplo recently checked another locale off his performance wish-list: Cuba. Back in March of last year, Diplo and his crew became one of the first American acts to take advantage of the easing of travel restrictions by U-S artists. He says he'd like to go back again _ if travel restrictions now back in place are ever loosened again.

BUBLE - JUNO - HOST

Canadian crooner Michael Buble says he feels privileged to be hosting the 2018 Juno Awards, a music industry gala he describes as his ``happy place.'' The B-C native had been tapped to lead the music awards show last year before he bowed out when his eldest son, Noah, was diagnosed with cancer. The 47th annual Juno Awards will be staged at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on March 25, 2018. Buble, who was born in Burnaby, B-C, said earlier this month he was getting back to work next year, with events booked in Dublin and London next July. Buble is a 12-time Juno award winner and hosted the gala in Regina in 2013.

DAVID CASSIDY - OBIT

In his heyday, David Cassidy had it all: a hit T-V show, the worship of millions of teenage and pre-teen girls _ and a hit record, to boot. But through the rest of his life, it seemed Cassidy struggled between balancing his early fame as a teen idol _ and living up to the demands of an actor with limited options for career growth. Cassidy has died. He was 67 _ and a family statement gave few details of his death, other than that he had been suffering organ failure. In his post-T-V years, Cassidy struggled with substance abuse and failed marriages. But while on ``The Partridge Family,'' the hit ``I Think I Love You'' spent three weeks atop the singles chart. Other hits on the chart then included classics like James Taylor's ``Fire and Rain'' and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' ``The Tears of a Clown.''

DAVID CASSIDY - HIS CAREER

There are likely few musicians who crafted as long of a career on the strength of such a short list of hits as David Cassidy did. He was the breakout star of the 1970's sitcom ``The Partridge Family.'' The show produced a single hit, ``I Think I Love You'' _ and Cassidy rode it to fame long after the show ended.

Cassidy had a solo hit with ``Cherish,'' a remake of the song by The Association. He also had a hit with ``I Write the Songs'' before Barry Manilow recorded a version that topped the charts. Meanwhile, Cassidy got props from George Michael, who considered himself an admirer. In fact, Michael sang backup vocals on the Cassidy song ``The Last Kiss,'' which had some success overseas.

NELLY - SAUDI ARABIA

Nelly is a pretty big name when it comes to the rap world. But to some in Saudi Arabia, he is considered persona non grata. The rapper is due to perform in Saudi Arabia next month _ but some Saudis won't welcome him. Some have gone on social media to note Nelly pleaded guilty in 2015 for pot possession. While a little weed here in the states is considered no big deal, possession of drugs is a serious crime _ and smuggling drugs is punishable by death. Others are looking side-eyed at Nelly because of a rape accusation against the rap star. Nelly was never charged in the case.

JOHN LENNON - ITEMS RECOVERED

A police spokesman in Germany perhaps put it best when he said ``this was a spectacular, unusual criminal case.'' The case involves some stuff that belonged to John Lennon. The items were swiped from his widow, Yoko Ono from her apartment in New York.

The items that were recovered in Germany include three diaries, two pairs of his signature metal-rimmed glasses, a cigarette case and a handwritten music score. One suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the theft of the items.

TAYLOR SWIFT - SALES MARKS

Say what you want about Taylor Swift _ but the woman sure knows how to sell albums. Her most recent release ``reputation'' has burnished her rep as a sales monster. The album has sold more than 1.22 million copies in just its first week in stores. Swift is also the first female artist in history to have three albums sell more than a million units in their debut week.

BEYONCE - TOP-EARNING WOMEN - MUSIC

She makes music. And she makes money making music _ lots of it. So much, that according to Forbes, Beyonce is the highest paid woman in music. The magazine reports Beyonce earned 105-million dollars during the year long stretch from June 2016 to June of this year. Her earnings were boosted by her ``Formation'' tour last year. Forbes says it grossed 250-million dollars _ in other words, a quarter of a billion dollars. Number two on the list of top-earning females on tour is Adele, followed by Taylor Swift, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez.

DEMI LOVATO - VIRGINIA LAWMAKER ATTENDS AMAs

It is one of the oddest plus-ones at the American Music Awards ever. Demi Lovato was accompanied to Sunday's awards show by one of Virginia's newly elected lawmakers. The Washington Post reports Lovato shared an invite to Delegate-elect Danica Roem as her date to Los Angeles on Sunday. Lovato says she is ``completely inspired'' by Roem, who was a transgender ex-newspaper reporter before she was elected earlier this month. While being interviewed on the red carpet, Roem says he appreciates Lovato's music _ but is really more of a heavy-metal head.

VICTORIA'S SECRET - SHANGHAI

There were 55 models who walked the runway at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in Shanghai yesterday. And they were accompanied by Harry Styles, Miguel and Leslie Odom, Jr. But much of the talk about the show centred on two people who weren't there.

Authorities say Gigi Hadid and Katy Perry didn't get the invite; media reports say they were denied entry visas.

BARBRA STREISAND - RETIREMENT?

Barbra Streisand isn't just trying to make you watch her upcoming Netflix special. But she does say you should watch _ because she doesn't plan to hit the stage again. The special makes its debut tomorrow night. And Streisand says ``Barbra: The Music ... The Mem'ries ... The Magic!'' is likely her swan song. She has said doing live shows are too nerve-wracking for her to do any more.
