MUSIC NEWS: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2017 GORD DOWNIE - MOURNED Rush says of the death of Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie, ``It's a sad, sad day for Canada and Canadian music.'' Nickelback tweets, ``Thank you for inspiring so many with a well-lived life,'' while k.d. Lang says, ``Swift rebirth Gord Downie.'' Downie was such a beloved figure in Canada, the NBA's Toronto Raptors, the NHL Players' Association and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau all sent condolences. Downie died Tuesday night after a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. MUSIC NEWS: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2017 CHRIS YOUNG - OPRY MEMBER Chris Young joined the Grand Ole Opry last night and he's still kicking himself for not seeing the invitation coming. Vince Gill had surprised him onstage at the Opry a few weeks ago by inviting him personally. Young says he prides himself on not getting surprised but Gill pulled a fast one. At 32, Young is the youngest current member of the Opry. He's also got a new album out on Friday called ``Losing Sleep.'' --- BIG AND RICH - LAS VEGAS Big and Rich will return to Las Vegas to help with the healing process after the Oct. 1st shootings at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Lawyer Karen Koehler said in a statement Friday her client wants to stop the investigation and will refuse to testify in court. The woman had accused Nelly of raping her on his tour bus outside of Seattle last weekend. MUSIC NEWS: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2017 JASON ALDEAN - ON STAGE Country star Jason Aldean brought the party back yesterday, but the fun was tempered. Three songs into his show in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he launched into a five-minute speech honouring the 58 killed including four Canadians and nearly 500 hurt when a gunman opened fire in Las Vegas as he was performing on stage. Aldean took a defiant tone as he in telling concertgoers to resist living in fear, and he called for more of the national unity he's seen since the attack. Fans pumped their fists and held up American flags as Aldean continued. MUSIC NEWS: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2017 FOREIGNER-MUSICAL It's been 40 years since Foreigner released its first album and now the songs of the legendary rock group are being made into a musical. ``Jukebox Hero'' will tell the story of the hard-hit town of Blaydon, Pennsylvania that is saved with the emergence of a rock group that helps bring in new industry. Speaking in Calgary yesterday, Mick Jones, the founder of Foreigner, said he ran into singer Diana Ross 20 years ago and she suggested to him that the song ``Jukebox Hero'' should be made into a musical. He said it's been on his mind ever since. Singer Keren Woodward says they were dancing in Siobhan Fahey's kitchen and Woodward mentioned it was ``a crying shame'' that Woodward never toured with them. Woodward had quit to form Shakespears Sister in 1988. Bananarama did not tour until 1989. They will play reunion concerts in Europe beginning next month before the American leg begins in Los Angeles in February. Fahey says she had to familiarize herself with the group's body of work again. MUSIC NEWS: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2017 JASON ALDEAN VISITS LAS VEGAS A hospital in Las Vegas is thanking Jason Aldean for visiting with survivors from the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival a week earlier. University Medical Center of Southern Nevada posted a photo of Aldean in front of the hospital. The caption thanks Aldean for helping to ``heal hearts and cheer those who were wounded.'' Aldean's wife, Brittany, posted an Instagram photo of the two of them looking at the Mandalay Bay resort, where gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire. She writes that it felt ``surreal'' to be back, but meeting with the survivors helped begin the healing process.
