A stronger commitment of capital for the new Dauphin Correctional Centre is something mayor Eric Irwin wants to see in next weeks provincial budget.

As for the current status of the project, Irwin says design studies are currently being conducted by city staff.

"Our engineering staff has discussed with their engineers how we deal with waste water and those kinds of issues, and the site because it's in the industrial park, it's owned jointly by the city and the RM. The plan is to transfer that land to them. There have been some discussions with respect to that. We would like to see them allocate in their budget, significant tangible amounts of money so that we know that we have a pretty good idea as to when they're going ahead."

Irwin says money for infrastructure projects is another priority the city wants addressed in the budget.
