Lake St Martin Families Back Home

After a six-year wait, 12 families have returned home to the Lake St. Martin First Nation.

The first nation community is just 2 hours east of Brandon and yesterday, they were given the keys to their new homes on the reserve.

Familes had their homes  ravaged by floods back in 2011, forcing the evacuation of about one thousand people.

More than 100 community members have died since the relocation due in part to illness and suicide. Chief Adrian Sinclair said it broke his heart to bury them before they had a chance to come home.
