It's been quite the summer so far for Bobbi Uhl. From Erickson, Uhl has been on a tear on the golf course and a finish on top paired with a top-two finish has the 20-year-old collegiate golfer feeling good about where her game is right now.

Starting the Manitoba part of her season playing in the Manitoba match play championships qualifier in Winkler, Uhl put together two solid rounds to place first at the event. She shot a 3 over in her first-round followed by a 1 under in her second-round.

The performance earned her the top seed advancing into the matches that were played at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg and Uhl continued to roll. After a 3&1 win in her quarter-final matchup, Uhl received a bye into the championship match. The finals just so happened to be against her good friend as she teed it up against Hannah Diamond who is a member at St. Charles.

Uhl dominated from start to finish with a 5&4 win as she won the match play championships on one of Manitoba's most prestigious golf courses.

"That was a pretty big deal to me because I found a way to beat her on her home course," said Uhl. "I had also lost to Hannah in the finals the previous two years, so to be able to get it done this year was really exciting. She was also really happy for me so that was awesome as well, it was a great event."

Uhl, a member at the Shilo Country Club would next set her sights on the Bel Acres Golf and Country Club as she looked to complete the Manitoba sweep. She played in the Diamond Athletic women's amateur championship, an event that once again featured the best amateur women in the province.

At the match play event, Veronica Vetesnik picked up the final spot heading into the matches and she was dispatched by Uhl 3&1, as mentioned above. Fast forward more than a month and the two were once again going head to head; however, this time it was in stroke play. After posting 153 in her first two rounds, Bobbi trailed Veronica by one stroke heading into the third and final round. Marissa Naylor was the next closest golfer, but she was a few strokes back so it came down to the Uhl and Vetesnik battle.

After the opening nine holes of the final round, Uhl tied things up with a 39 while Veronica shot a 40. Despite draining two birdies on the back, Uhl suffered two bogies while Vetesnik also made two birdies, compared to just one bogey. This meant Vetesnik was crowned this summer's women's amateur champion, by one stroke.106985642 1672594636227427 4813788160684122481 n

"Overall, I'm happy with how I played but I wasn't really happy with how I played on day two," said Uhl. "It was a frustrating day, but I think, for the most part, I played some pretty good golf and put a good battle forth."

Bobbi will now head back south of the border to continue her collegiate career. She's heading into her third year at Longwood University where she plays on the women's golf team. In the 2018-2019 season, Bobbi played in eight events and she averaged 81.62 strokes. She had one top-five finish and one top 10 finish.

Uhl's last tournament last season before everything was cancelled because of COVID came at the Kiawah Island Classic. She went 83-76-80.

"I love playing collegiate golf, it's such a good challenge because everyone is so good," ended Uhl. "I love being a part of the team and playing the game I love at an elite level."
