High pot taxes on the way

The federal government wants to make the price of legal pot cost even more.

The federal government is proposing an excise tax of $1 per gram of marijuana or 10 percent of the final retail price, whichever one is higher. Premier Pallister isn’t happy with this idea, saying any tax increase is going to drive up the price and help keep the illicit market thriving. 

Pallister also says anyone who thinks legal pot is a pot of gold for the province is wrong.

The federal government thinks this will generate about $ 1 billion a year.
