Throne Speech Outlines Public Sector Reductions

More reductions in the public sector are among several cost-cutting measures being signalled in Manitoba's throne speech.

Progressive Conservative Premier Brian Pallister says the job cuts are on top of the eight per cent reduction in civil service jobs over three years that was announced earlier.

The throne speech was short on specifics but alluded to plans to stop sharing some services with municipalities and to encourage more private investment in child care and other programs.

The Tory plan also calls for cutting red-tape in a number of areas, such as reducing the cost of regulatory reviews by the Public Utilities Board.
