City Of Dauphin Considering Alternative Sandbags

The City of Dauphin is investigating the possibility of using a new type of sandbag.

Public Works Director Bill Brenner describes the new bags as a kind of sandless sandbag.

"When you take those sandbags and put them in water, they grow, and expand into a 45 pound bag, similar to a sandbag."

Brenner believes the City has about 2,500 filled sandbags stored on pallets waiting for use.

Brenner says with the new sandbags, that same amount could be stored in a closet.

He warns though, they are expensive.

Brenner says the City is trying to contact the supplier to get some samples.
