Fewer mattresses will land in Manitoba landfills if a company in Winnipeg is successful in expanding a pilot project.
Darryl Bruce is the general manager of Mother Earth Recycling.
He says he currently has the project running in Winnipeg, and he's doing studies into what the best method of expansion will be.
"Obviously we'd like to expand out and keep all mattresses province wide from going to landfills. Whether we look at setting up satellite sites in the province, or we have mattresses shipped to our facility, that's something we'll look for down the road and do a feasibility study to see what's gonna be the most economic way to get the mattresses to us or get them to another place that will do the same process that we do to keep them from going to landfills."
Bruce says an expansion of this project would create more employment opportunities, and would help clean up the environment.
