Stayin' Alive

The Spruce Grove Saints are still alive at the 2014 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup following a 3-2 overtime win against the Yorkton Terriers Tuesday afternoon.

It took Carson Samoridny 7:13 into overtime to spank a one timer past Yorkton goalie Kale Thomson for the victory on the Power Play. All of Spruce Grove's goals actually came on the Power Play with the latest being on a bit of a weak call on Yorkton's Brett Boehm considering the circumstances. Other tallies for the Saints came from Parker Mackay (2) and Cameron Hughes (1). Yorkton got goals from Boehm (4) and Tyler Giebel (1).

Power Plays were the difference Tuesday afternoon. Yorkton ended the day 0 for 3 while Spruce Grove was 3 for 7. The Saints outshot the Terriers 41-37 and hit two cross bars and a couple posts.

The result means the standings at the WCC get a little more interesting. Spruce Grove and Yorkton are now both 1-2 and tied for fourth place while Dauphin and Winnipeg are 1-1 and tied for second while Coquitlam remains first at 2-0.

Up next at the Western Canada Cup is a rematch of the MJHL Final between the Dauphin Kings and Winnipeg Blues. Pre Game on 730 CKDM is 6:30pm with puck drop at 7:00pm.
