Dauphin's Tomchuk heading to U18 Team Canada West Rugby Tryouts!

Dauphin's Brayden Tomchuk is heading to Regina to begin tryouts this afternoon for the Team Canada U18 West Team.

This won't be the first time Tomchuk will get to shine on the national level. In July, he was on the Prairie Blizzard (Sask-Man All-Star Team) in which they competed in the U18 men's Canadian Rugby Championships in Calgary

"When we were at that tournament, I was pulled aside by my coach and told about this opportunity," said Tomchuk. "I just felt like I should really take this."

During that tournament, Tomchuk and the rest of the Blizzard went winless but improved each game.

"Whenever you play in a national festival like that, you play against a bunch of guys who are better than you," said Tomchuk. "I was actually really small there, so I had to work that much harder to succeed."

When Tomchuk hits the field this afternoon, the process of making Team Canada U18 West begins, and the process is a rather long one.

If Tomchuk is chosen as one of the athletes to continue on, he will then attend the Canada West camp in Vancouver in early November. From there, the best players from that camp will take part in the 2018 U18 North American 4 Series in Phoenix, Arizona.

"I'm going in there with high expectations for sure," said Tomchuk. "I don't know what the rest of the competition is looking like, but obviously I hope to make the team."

The camp kicks off this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Regina and goes through Sunday.
