MJHL joining SJHL for brand new Showcase this season

For the first time ever, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and Manitoba Junior Hockey League will come together for a showcase, that will take place on January 15-16 in Regina.

The Showcase will feature three teams each from the Manitoba Junior and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League featuring 60 of the top players from each league and six teams overall.

One team in each league will be comprised of players 18 and under, and the other two teams will be made up of players who are 19 and 20 years of age, with each team playing two games.

"The purpose of the event is to showcase the top players in our league," said Kim Davis, Commissioner of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. "The games will be very competitive."

The SJHL/MJHL Showcase will be on top of the already MJHL Showcase which will take place at Bell MTS Iceplex in early December.

"We wanted to do as much as possible to promote the players within our league," said Davis. "We were looking for an idea that would be a Showcase type of event that would be competitive, and this was it."

Davis notes the two leagues hope to continue this for year's to come.

"The plan is for it to happen every year," said Davis. "We hope to make it a successful event in the first year, and go from there, but we do fully expect to have it go on for years."

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League kicks off its regular season next Friday.
