Last year Cherneski played for the Dauphin Clippers high school hockey team, after being cut from the Rangers in the team's last cuts.
"It's a big deal to me," said Cherneski. "I grew up watching the Rangers and quite a few guys from Roblin have grown up and played for the Rangers, and for me to finally make the team, it's fun to be a part of."
Cherneski played 67 games with the Bantam AAA Parkland team before his high school stint, and now joining the Rangers midget team.
"I'm just really excited to get the season going," said Cherneski. "Hopefully we can get off to a good start, and I'm definitely thinking we will be a contender for the playoffs this year."
First off for Cherneski and the Rangers is one more team practice, and then they will play in their home opener this Friday at Credit Union Place.
"A lot of the boys on the team are pumped up for the home opener," said Cherneski. "It's going to be a fun night, and we're ready for it."
Puck drop on Friday is set for 7:00.
