Grandview's Ryan Pulock makes NHL's Islanders!

After a long off-season, training camp and several preseason games, the NHL regular season has arrived, and Grandview's Ryan Pulock is sticking in the NHL as he made the New York Islanders out of training camp

"This is the first step," said Pulock. "Obviously I want to help this team win, and get in the lineup every day, and this is the first step in doing that. I'm looking forward to improving every day and getting the games going."

The Grandview native has played 16 games in his NHL career, but the majority of his time as a pro has been spent with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers who play in the American Hockey League.

"The biggest difference is speed," said Pulock. "In the NHL, the first to fourth lines are all really skilled and developed. There's just more depth, and you get to battle against the best players in the world. It's the best league in hockey, so obviously it's challenging at times, but I love being a part of it."

Pulock played 160 games for the Sound Tigers over the past three seasons, compiling 119 points from the back end.

"We have eight defensemen here, and only six play every night," said Pulock. "I just have to show up to practice every day and try to get better. I don't know if I'll get the opportunity in game one, or three but when I do, I have to show that I belong and that I can be a big part of the team."

Pulock notes he's very thankful everyday playing hockey as a job, and with the best players in the world.

"Every day here is rewarding," said Pulock. "So many kids grow up wanting to play in the NHL, but not many do that. Just to get the chance, I am extremely thankful. I just try to enjoy every day, because you never know how long a career ends up being.

The Islanders kick off their regular season on the road on Friday as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
