Neepawa's Halli Krzyzaniak attempting to make Team Canada

Growing up in Neepawa, Halli Krzyzaniak always had a dream of playing hockey at an elite level, and that dream came true as she played college hockey in the United States, and is now attempting to make the Women's National Hockey Team.

"I just graduated from the University of North Dakota where I played for four years," said Krzyzaniak. "Now I'm spending the year in Calgary with 28 girls, as we all vie for spots on the 2018 Olympic team."

During her time with North Dakota, Krzyzaniak played 139 games and recorded 58 points.

Out of the 28, only 23 will make the final team that will head to the Olympics, meaning three forwards and two defensemen will be cut.

"It's definitely a hard process," said Krzyzaniak. "It's difficult to constantly be battling against your teammates for your spot. Cuts can happen anytime between now and the middle of January, so I think it's important to just take it day by day, and not look too far ahead into the future."

Announced earlier this week, Team Canada will take on the United States Women's National Team on December 5 at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg.

"For me that's incredible," said Krzyzaniak. " I haven't played in Winnipeg since my last year in High School, which was five seasons ago now. To be that close to home, it would basically be a home game for me. If I made it that far and was able to have my friends and family out there to support me, it would be really special to me."

On top of the six-game series against the U.S, Canada is taking part in the Esso Series which is a series of games from now until January.
