The Kings played perhaps their best 10 minutes of the season so far to kick off the game, and they were rewarded when first-year player, Jaxon Heeney picked up a puck and walked out to the slot and snapped a shot past Brock Aiken as the Kings took a 1-0 lead and that's the way the first 20 ended.
In an extremely exciting second period, the Dauphin Kings opened up the scoring with Jacob Karran, as he used his size and picked up a rebound off the pads of Aiken and sneaked it past him to make it a 2-0 lead for the Kings.
Three minutes later on the power play, Kyle Oleksiuk on the left side of the ice created his own space and snapped his second goal of the season past Aiken.
In the third period, the Terriers made it extremely close scoring two goals, but Matt Kustra made some big-time saves, and after 60, the Kings earned their first points of the year and their first win.
Portage outshot Dauphin 32-24, including 13-2 in the third period.
Mark Ziobro and Jacob Karron were both ejected from the game for fighting.
Matt Kustra picked up his first win as a part of the Dauphin Kings.
The Dauphin Kings once again hit the ice on Friday as they take on the Steinbach Pistons at Credit Union Place.
The next broadcast on 730CKDM will be Tuesday, October 10 when the Kings head to Swan Valley. The pregame show is set for 7:20
