"The team will be the very first team inducted into the program," said Terry Murray. "There have been a lot of teams over the year, and we even beat out the Winnipeg Jets in their WHA Days. It's definitely really special."
Murray, whose father played on the team was the team mascot when he was nine years old, and sat in the player's box during the period.
"It's a big honour knowing my father was on the team," said Murray. "It was great to be able to be the mascot and skate around with the guys, and just spend time around the team."
Being so long after they played, several players have now passed away, and or were unreachable.
"It's too bad it's so late," said Murray. "There are only four members alive that we know of. Two of those members will be at the Induction ceremony on Saturday, but due to other circumstances, the other two are unable to attend."
Nine other family members will be joining the Induction ceremony, but as Murray notes, it's just been so long so it was almost impossible to contact all of the players, and or their families.
Darnell Duff will be at the event, so make sure you check out the 730CKDM Facebook Page for pictures throughout the night.
Barry Trotz will be inducted into the Builders category. Trotz coached the Kings in the 1986-87 season. In that season, the team went 28-19 in their 47games.
The event takes place on Saturday at CanadInns, Polo Park.
