The Kings opened the scoring 5:29 into the game when Kyle Oleksiuk tipped in Matthew Boren's shot from the point as the Kings led it 1-0.
Seven minutes later at the 12:38 mark, the Steelers tied it up.
The Kings regained their lead at the 16:39 mar when Wilson Northey scored his second of the season, with Kyle Oleksiuk and Ryder Richmond picking up assists as the Kings led 2-1 after 20.
The Kings extended their lead to 3-1, 11:05 into the second as Matt Pitchenese scored his first of the season, with Mark Ziobro picking up an assist.
Matthew Caruso brought the Steelers back within one goal at the 16:06 mark as the Kings led 3-2 after 40.
Physical play dominated the third period, including several chances for both teams, but it was only the Steelers who could capitalize as they tied up the game at the 18:50 mark as the game was headed for overtime.
No goals were scored in overtime, and Carter Barley was the only scorer in the shootout as the Steelers came back to earn two points against the Kings.
