Grandview's Evans Shining in Swan River!

The Swan Valley Stampeders have had their fair share of struggles over the past years, but this year seems to be trending in a different direction, and Grandview's Brett Evans has been a big reason why.

"We've started off slowly the last few years for sure," said Evans. "It just seems that the tempo in the dressing room this year is higher than in years prior."

12 games into the season, the Stampeders are 4-5-3, good enough for 11 points which has them in eighth place.

"For the most part a lot of the guys are focused on winning this year," said Evans. "It's more of a winning environment. We're trying to set ourselves up to win, instead of just going through the motions and seeing what happens. We want to get higher in the standings before teams make moves, and we believe we can do that."

Evans is third in the MJHL in G.A.A with a 2.68 and he's fourth in the league with a .919 save percentage.

"A little bit of confidence can go a long way if you have some good games," said Evans. "Our team has been helping me out more this year by keeping forwards outside and just making it easier on me. Last year I felt it took a few games to get into it, and I didn't start rolling until later in the year, but I feel I'm rolling early in the year this time around, so if this keeps up, we'll do really well."

The Stampeders are coming off an overtime loss to the Steinbach Pistons this past Friday, and a 3-1 loss one night later against the Selkirk Steelers.

Evans and the rest of the Stamps return to the ice tomorrow evening when they welcome the Virden Oil Capitals.

"We had a couple of tough weekends in the city," said Evans. "Overall we're in a little slump, but that win in Dauphin last week helped us up, and a win against Virden tomorrow would really help us get back to where we want to be."

Puck drop tomorrow at the Swan River Centennial Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
