Duck Bay's Daniel Chartrand Having Lots of Success With Blizzard!

Before this season, Daniel Chartrand played 111 games for the Dauphin Kings and recorded 49 points, but the Duck Bay native is now in his first season with the OCN Blizzard after an offseason trade.

"It's been great," said Chartrand. "It’s been a little bit of an adjustment living away from home for the first time, but OCN welcomed me with open arms. It’s a great community, the fans love me, and the organization treats me great. I love it up here.”

The 20-year-old is second in Blizzard team scoring this year, potting eight goals, and eight assists for a 16 point total, just two behind Anthony Keeper who has 18. Chartrand also has two game-winning-goals which is the most on the team.

“I’m just trying to get better every day,” said Chartrand. “I try to put a lot of extra work off the ice, and on the ice and I just go to the rink every day with the same mentality of getting better each time.”

There’s no doubt Chartrand is a big reason for the Blizzard success so far (12-3-2), but he has high praise for the team’s main goalie, Emilien Boily.

“He’s been excellent between the pipes,” said Chartrand. “He’s so consistent and brings it each and every game. Even when we’re not controlling the play, he’ll make a big-time save and bring us back.”

With their 12-3-2 record, the Blizzard sit in a tie atop the MJHL with the Steinbach Pistons who also have 26 points.

“I thought we would be good, but I didn’t think this good to be honest,” said Chartrand. “We were struggling with injuries and sickness at the start of the year, but we just pushed through and now we’re sitting in a tie at the top, so it’s great.”

Chartrand and the rest of the Blizzard will begin November with three straight home games, beginning tomorrow night against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

“No matter who we play, we just have to go out and work,” said Chartrand. “Even though we’re high in the standings, we can’t take anyone lightly. We just need to stick to the game plan and pursue what we strive for, that being greatness.”

You can see Duck Bay’s Daniel Chartrand and the rest of the Blizzard when they visit Dauphin on November 9 at 7:30.
