Roblin's Townsend Big in Stampeders Success

Jaden Townsend began his competitive hockey career with the Parkland Rangers in the 2013-2014 season with the Bantam AAA Rangers, before playing two seasons with the Midget AAA Rangers, and now the Roblin native is in his second season with the Swan Valley Stampeders.

"My time as a Ranger was definitely a learning experience,” said Townsend. “My second year Bantam, we won provincials. Then I played in the Telus Cup in my first year Midget. The guys were always having a blast, and it was super competitive, so it definitely prepared me for JR.A hockey.”

After tonight, the Stampeders will be tied with Virden for the fewest games played in the league at 14, as they sit at 4-6-3 and are in ninth place, two points behind the Winnipeg Blues who occupy the eighth spot.

“Our season is going pretty well,” said Townsend. “I think we could be a lot higher in the standings. We’re getting lots of chances, but we can’t put the puck in the net. We’re right there with pretty much every team we play with.”

The Roblin native has suited up in 10 games this year and has recorded five points, three of which are goals.

“I think I’m having success because my work ethic is always there,” said Townsend. “The way we’re coached right now plays into how I like to play. I like to go into the dirty areas to get the job done.”

The Stampeders are back on the ice tonight against the OCN Blizzard in the Pas.

“We’re just trying to put the puck in the net more, and work on the little things,” said Townsend. “I just want to make the team better. I’m not too worried about myself; I just want to do whatever is best for the team.”

Puck drop tonight in OCN is set for 7:00 p.m.
