Gilbert Plains Varsity Girls Trojans Volleyball off to Brandon

The Gilbert Plains varsity girls Trojans volleyball team will be spending the next couple days in Brandon playing in the Neelin Dig tournament.

"A realistic expectation for us would be to finish top two in our pool today," said Daniel Lehman, Head Coach for the team. "That's where we want to finish, and then tomorrow it would be nice to finish in the top 12 overall."

The last two tournaments the varsity girls Trojans have played in were very good. The team won a tournament in Swan River early in October, and then placed second in Hamiota, also last month.

"We've played in some very meaningful games, and the more chances you get to do that, the better prepared you are down the road," said Lehman. "Those tournaments are only going to help us going into this weekend, and forward this season."

The tournament that begins in Brandon today has 40 teams from around the province at the A-AA-AAA level.

"It's a tournament the girls always look forward to," said Lehman. "You see so many different teams. There's always something going on, and Neelin does a great job in putting on this tournament."

The team will play three games today at 12:30, 3:30 and 5:30.
