Clippers Win Third Straight Championship!

The Dauphin Clippers headed to Moosomin on Saturday morning for the Manitoba Rural Football League Championship, and for the third straight year, the Dauphin Clippers are Champions of the league as they beat the Generals, 48-40 in a thriller.

"Everyone was absolutely ecstatic," said Cam Bennet, Football Operations for the Clippers. "Especially the grade 12's. They really wanted to go out Champions, having been Champions in grade 10 and 11, so they really wanted to do that as there final moment and they stuck together and pulled it out."

The Clippers and Generals have a history dating back to last season when the Clippers beat the Generals for the Championship, but earlier this season, the Generals pummeled the Clippers, winning 74-34 in Dauphin.

"Moosomin came out in that regular season game having something to prove, and they definitely did," said Bennet. "This time, we just went out and had fun. We were definitely the underdogs, but I think our experience really came into play. Being in the Championship before and winning it, we just knew how to finish it off."

As we look ahead to next season now, the Clippers will be without 11 players who are set to graduate this spring.

"It was pretty emotional," said Bennet. "There was lots of hugs, and high fives and tears. it was great to see all the parents that came down, and rushed the field as we won."

When next season begins, the Clippers will look to make it four in a row, but as Bennet notes, it will be a different team.

"We have a lot of big shoes to fill, there's no doubt about that," said Bennet. "But we do have some experienced players that played big roles on this team. We're definitely going to improve every game next year, and I guess we'll just see what happens."

In other Championship action, the Swan Valley Tigers captured the Murray Black Cup winning 33-28 over Virden.
