Tuesday Sports Notes

The Dauphin Kings and Oil Capitals meet for the final time this season in Virden tonight. The two clubs will finish first and second in the Sher-Wood Division respectively. The Kings have three games left in their year, tonight in Virden, Friday in Neepawa and Saturday in Swan Valley. Dauphin opens up the playoffs in March against the winner of the Survivor Series between OCN and Wayway. Game time tonight is 7:30. Listen to it on 730 CKDM!

The North Central Hockey League Semi Finals are set to start later this week. The Grandview Comets and Russell Rams begin their best of five series on Saturday in Russell. Game two in Grandview goes on Sunday. The other semi final series sees the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks squaring off with the Minnedosa Bombers.

The NHL is back, sort of. The league returns from its Olympic break with just one game. The Buffalo Sabres are home to the Carolina Hurricanes to make up a game postponed in January by weather. For fans of the other 28 teams, action picks up again tomorrow with four games including Detroit at Montreal and Vancouver hosting St. Louis. The Winnipeg Jets host Phoenix on Thursday.

Tom Higgins is returning to CFL coaching after he was hired by the Montreal Alouettes yesterday. He takes over from GM Jim Popp, who had been handling the coaching duties after Dan Hawkins was fired early in the 2013 season. The team announced the move yesterday and Higgins is speaking to the media today. Higgins won a Grey Cup as coach of the Eskimos in 2003.
