Tuesday Sports Notes

The Manitoba Winter Games march on today in Morden & Winkler. The Parkland won their first medal yesterday thanks to Laurier's Jeremy Boerchers who won bronze in the Juvenile Cross Country Ski 7.5 kilometer Classic Interval Start. Items on tap today at the Winter Games include more Cross Country Skiing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Curling and Ringette. Listen to CKDM throughout today for updates.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League begins it's Survivor Series tonight on both fronts. In the Sher-Wood Division the OCN Blizzard host the Wayway Wolverines in the best of three series. The winner moves on to face the Dauphin Kings. Meanwhile in the Addison Division the Winnipeg Blues entertain the Winkler Flyers with the winner in that series moving forward to play the Selkirk Steelers.

The North Central Hockey League playoffs continue tonight in Elkhorn. The Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks can move on to the league final with a win over the Minnedosa Bombers. The C-Hawks lead the best of five series 2-0. The Comets and Russell Rams resume their set tomorrow in Grandview.

The Brandon Wheat Kings will try to get closer to clinching a playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference tonight when they host the Calgary Hitmen. Brandon currently sits seventh in the conference with six games left in their season. They're six points inside the playoff picture.

Manitoba's Jeff Stoughton is looking to rebound this morning at the Tim Hortons Brier. Two contests on his day see him face Quebec's Jean-Michel Menard and Jamie Murphy of Nova Scotia. Stoughton's record coming into today is 4-1.

There are 10 NHL games tonight, with four Canadian teams in action. The Winnipeg Jets will seek their third straight win when they welcome the Islanders to Winnipeg. New York has just two wins in its last 10 games. The Canucks entertain Phoenix, which has lost nine of its past 10 outings. It's the fifth and final meeting of the season, with the two clubs splitting the previous four games. Meanwhile, the Oilers welcome a red-hot Erik Karlsson and the Senators to Edmonton. Karlsson has three goals and five points in his last five games. Ottawa remains three points behind Detroit for the final playoff spot in the East while the Oilers are looking to avoid a fourth straight loss.
