Wednesday Sports Notes

The Grandview Comets have a chance to move on to the North Central Hockey League final with a win at home tonight over the Russell Rams. Grandview leads the best of five series 2-0. With a victory the Comets will go on to face the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks who advanced the to the league final last night after beating Minnedosa. Game time this evening in Grandview is 8:30.

The Manitoba Winter Games continue in Winkler & Morden. It's a bit of a slow day as transitions continue to sports for the second half of the week. Team Parkland is in action in a few sports today including Curling. Listen to CKDM this afternoon for updates! 

Manitoba is back on the ice with two games today at the Tim Hortons Brier. First Jeff Stoughton and company meet Northern Ontario's Jeff Currie. Then later on they throw with Steve Laycock of Saskatchewan. Stoughton comes into the day at 5-2.

It's trade deadline day in the National Hockey League (2pm Manitoba Time). There are four games on tap in the NHL tonight. The Toronto Maple Leafs visit the New York Ranges, Ottawa visits Calgary, Montreal is in Anaheim and Philadelphia entertains Washington.

Star forward Steven Stamkos is ready to make his return to the Tampa Bay lineup. He sent out a tweet on his verified Twitter account that he is cleared to play tomorrow. The Lightning will entertain Buffalo. Stamkos broke his right leg four months ago. He has 23 points in 17 games this season.

The Dauphin Rec Hockey League returns to Credit Union Place tonight. At 8:15 Aspen Insurance skates with Dauphin Vet Clinic, then at 9:30 Dauphin Co-op Agro and Hometown Auto Glass go head to head.

Kitchen Shines but Kings Lose 10th Straight

Brennan Kitchen made 49 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Kings couldn't muster anything offensively, as the Portage Terriers came into Credit Union Place and beat the Kings, 3-0.
