Thursday Sports Notes

The Dauphin Kings can take a 3-0 stranglehold in their Sher-Wood Division Semi Final Series tonight when they host OCN at Credit Union Place. Dauphin has outscored the Blizzard 10-0 in the series so far. Tickets to the contest are available all day today at the Credit Union Place South Ticket Office. Opening face off is 7:30pm. Bring your radio to the rink and listen to the game on CKDM, the Pre Game Show starts at 7:10pm. The only other MJHL playoff tilt on the night has the Virden Oil Capitals home to Swan Valley. The Stampeders lead that series 2-0.

High School Junior Varsity Basketball Provincials begin today for the Dauphin Clippers. They're at the 'AAA'/'AAAA' event in Winnipeg and will get their tournament going this afternoon at 2:00pm when they hit the hard court with the Sisler Spartans.

The hard-charging Los Angeles Kings take an eight-game winning streak into their home game against Toronto as part of the NHL schedule tonight. The run has helped vault the Kings into sixth place in the Western Conference. Elsewhere, lowly Edmonton is in tough with a game against league-leading St. Louis. There's a total of seven games on the docket.

Corey Chamblin is staying put. A CFL source says the Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed their head coach to a multi-year contract extension. The Riders have scheduled a news conference for this afternoon to make the announcement official. Chamblin, 36, was named the CFL's coach of the year after leading the Roughriders to an 11-7 regular-season record and eventual Grey Cup title.

Former NFL All-Pro safety Darren Sharper is back in court today for a hearing that will determine whether he's released on bail amid new charges that he drugged and sexually assaulted two women last year in Arizona. Sharper has been in a Los Angeles jail since last month when he turned himself in on an arrest warrant issued by Louisiana authorities on similar charges.
