Monday Sports Notes

Ottawa's Rachel Homan takes a 2-1 record into the third day of play at the World Women's Curling Championship in Saint John. Homan and her rink will play in the afternoon and evening draws, taking on Denmark first and then the United States. Homan is tied for second place.

It's a important game five tonight for the Oil Capitals and Stampeders in Virden. The MJHL's Sher-Wood Division Semi Final is tied at two games a piece coming in. Swan Valley won the first two games of the set while Virden rebounded with the last two. The winner of the series goes on to play the Dauphin Kings. Speaking of the Kings, tickets for the Sher-Wood Division Final go on sale Thursday at 11am at the Credit Union Place South Ticket Office.

The Winnipeg Jets are going to have a tough time in St. Louis tonight when they play the Blues. St. Louis has the best record in the NHL and goaltender Ryan Miller has been rock solid since arriving from Buffalo. The Jets have some momentum though after crushing Dallas 7-2 last night in Winnipeg. There are two other games in the NHL tonight. Boston hosts Minnesota, and Los Angeles is home to Phoenix.

The scene is set for the start of the men's NCAA basketball tournament. Play will start tomorrow night with play-in games in Dayton, Ohio. Florida was tabbed as the number one overall seed with Arizona, Virginia and Wichita State chosen as the remaining regional top seeds.

Canada's Paralympians begin returning home today after the Sochi Games wrapped up yesterday. The Canadian team had a goal of finishing in the top three in gold medals and hit that target with seven gold. Canada finished fourth in total medals with 16.
