Tuesday Sports Notes

It will be a busy night in the NHL with 12 games scheduled, including five Canadian teams in action. The Montreal Canadiens host the Colorado Avalanche, the New York Rangers visit the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs travel to Detroit to take on the Red Wings. Later in the evening, the Calgary Flames welcome the Buffalo Sabres and the Nashville Predators are in Edmonton to play the Oilers.

Two more MJHL Playoff series could be done by the end of the night. The Addison Division Semi Finals are on the ice with both visiting teams having a chance to take their series. In Selkirk the Steelers try to claw their way back from a 3-1 deficit when they host the Blues while the Steinbach Pistons look to avoid going to a game seven when they visit the Portage Terriers. Both contests happen at 7:30pm.

Meanwhile the Kings return to practice today at Credit Union Place. Dauphin is still awaiting their Sher-Wood Division Final opponent as the set between Virden and Swan Valley hits game six tomorrow. Tickets for the best-of-seven series go on sale tomorrow at the South Ticket Office starting at 11am.

Two games today for Canada's Rachel Homan at the world women's curling championship in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Ottawa rink takes on Latvia in the early draw before facing Scotland later. Homan's squad begins action with a 4-1 record after beating the U-S and Denmark yesterday.

March Madness tips off with two games. Mount St. Mary's plays Albany in the first game while North Carolina State takes on Xavier. The winners advance to the actual NCAA division one men's basketball championship tournament.
