Wednesday Sports Notes

Spring is just around the corner. With that being said the Parkland Rec Complex is hosting their annual Baseball and Soccer Registration night tonight and tomorrow. Sign up takes place in the Credit Union Place lobby from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

The Dauphin Kings could know who they face in the Sher-Wood Division Final by the end of the night. The Virden Oil Capitals visit the Swan Valley Stampeders with a chance to take their series in game six. If Swan Valley forces a game seven it'll happen Friday in Virden. The Sher-Wood Division Final starts Sunday at Credit Union Place, tickets for home games one and two go on sale tomorrow, 11am at the South Ticket Office.

The Brandon Wheat Kings don't play today, but they still managed to pick up a big win. The WHL club will have the first overall pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft thanks to Saskatoon. The Blades won the WHL Draft Lottery today, but the Wheat Kings had acquired the right to swap first round picks with the Blades when they dealt Brenden Walker to Saskatoon on Bantam Draft Day in 2012. This year's Draft happens May 1st in Calgary.

Ottawa's Rachel Homan is in a tie for first at the women's world curling championship in Saint John, New Brunswick. She can improve on her 6-1 record today as her rink faces Germany in the early draw and South Korea in the mid-day draw.

It's a quiet day in the NHL with just four games on the schedule -- but three of them are in Canada. The Winnipeg Jets are six points outside the Western Conference playoff picture as they enter play tonight at home when they entertain the Colorado Avalanche. In Toronto the Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning. The two clubs are neck-and-neck in the NHL's Atlantic Division while out west the Nashville Predators travel to Vancouver to play the Canucks.
