Friday Sports Notes

Local Skips Ray Baker and Butch Mouck take their teams into day one action at the Mixed Provincial Curling Championship in Altona today. Both groups have two contest. Baker throws the rocks with Bob Sigurdson of West Kildonan and Fort Rouge's Derek Samagalski. Mouck goes up against Thistle's Jared Kolomaya then Fort Rouge's Kevin Brown. High School Varsity Baskeball Provincials march on today across Manitoba. In Somerset the Gilbert Plains Trojans are at the Boys 'A' Tournament. They'll tangle with the St.Laurent Hawks on the Consolation Side. Meanwhile in Sprague it's the Girls 'A' event and the Grandview Spartans are there. They'll try to keep things going on the Championship Side when they meet up with the Glenboro Panthers.

Tickets are back on sale until 5 o'clock today at the Credit Union Place South Ticket Office for the MJHL's Sher-Wood Division Final. The Dauphin Kings host game one against the Virden Oil Capitals on Sunday. The full series schedule was released yesterday, to see it check out CKDM's facebook page.

Less than a week after taking Rural Bantam 'AAA' Provincials in Portage the Parkland Junior Rangers face off with the Winnipeg Monarchs in the Province's best of three championship series. Game one is tonight at 7:00pm in Winnipeg with games two and three on Saturday and Sunday. Listen to CKDM all weekend long for updates!

Ottawa's Rachel Homan can advance to the world women's curling championship final. Her rink faces Switzerland in the Page 1-2 playoff game. Homan finished atop the overall standings with a 10-1 record. The playoff game happens this evening.

It's a quiet night in the NHL with just four games on the ice. One of those games sees the red-hot Boston Bruins visiting Colorado. The Bruins are on a 10-game winning streak atop the Eastern Conference. In Calgary, the Flames are hosting the sliding Nashville Predators. Chicago, meanwhile, greets Carolina and Columbus is home to the New York Rangers.
