Wednesday Sports Notes

Parkland Hockey Fans will be keeping an eye on tonight's WHL playoff game in Brandon. The Wheat Kings host the Regina Pats in game three of the best-of-seven series. Brandon leads the set 2-0 and can take a stranglehold in the series with a victory. However if Regina wins the teams will be closer to coming to Dauphin for game six next week. Start time this evening is 7:00pm.

An off day for the Dauphin Kings after they snagged a 2-0 series lead in Virden yesterday. The Kings and Oil Capitals return to Credit Union Place for game three of the Sher-Wood Division Final tomorrow night. Make sure you get your tickets for the tilt, two lucky fans will be plucked from the crowd and have a chance to shoot for $50,000 during one of the intermissions. Tickets are on sale today until 5pm and tomorrow (Thursday) from 11am to game time.

Team Manitoba and Peter Prokopowich are back with two contests today at the National Seniors Curling Championship in Yellowknife. This afternoon they throw the rocks with Quebec's Denis Leflamme then tonight they meet Glen Hudy of Northwest Territories. Coming into action Manitoba sits tied for second in the standings with a record of 5-2. 

The Vancouver Canucks will try to keep their slim post-season hopes alive tonight in Minnesota in one of three NHL games. Vancouver enters play six points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference with nine games to go. The New York Rangers will entertain Philadelphia and Calgary is home to Anaheim in other games.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club is asking its members to vote in favour of allowing women to join for the first time. The vote is set for September. If the vote is favourable, women would be allowed to join the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

Brennan Kitchen made 49 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Kings couldn't muster anything offensively, as the Portage Terriers came into Credit Union Place and beat the Kings, 3-0.
