Tuesday Sports Notes

Canada lost it's first game at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Finland earlier today. They dropped a 3-2 shoot out decision to Russia to drop their record to 3-1. Roblin's Jayce Hawryluk was unable to pick up a point in the affair. Canada will play in the quarter finals on Thursday against an opponent to be determined.

Following a busy day yesterday at Credit Union Place the South Ticket Office is open again today for the Western Canada Cup. People can pick up or purchase their tickets starting at 3:00pm. The host committee reports less than 25 VIP Add-Ons left for the event, those can also be purchased at Credit Union Place.

The Montreal Canadiens can become the first team to advance to the second round of the NHL playoffs with a win over Tampa Bay tonight at home. The Habs lead the Lightning 3-0 in the best-of-seven series and are on the cusp of putting last season's disappointing first-round exit behind them. In other playoff games tonight, Boston is at Detroit, Philadelphia hosts the New York Rangers, and San Jose is in Los Angeles.

The Toronto Blue Jays open a six-game homestand tonight as they welcome the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto is coming off a 5-4 road swing that included two victories in Baltimore. Knuckleballer R-A Dickey gets the start for Toronto, looking to improve on his 1-3 record.

The Toronto Raptors look for a better performance tonight in Game 2 of their first-round NBA playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets. The Raptors' playoff inexperience showed in their 94-87 loss to the battle-tested Nets in Game 1. The Raptors hope for a split at Air Canada Centre before the series shifts to Brooklyn.
