The start of the MJHL Final started terribly for Riese Gaber and the Steinbach Pistons, but it couldn't have ended any better after last night's series-clinching win against Virden.

"It's an absolutely unreal feeling," said Gaber, one day after winning the Championship. "Winning the league was our goal since Day 1, and we did that so it feel's great."

The tough start saw the Pistons down 2-0, but a flip of the switch then saw the Pistons win four straight games to claim the Turnbull Cup.

"We didn't play like we could in the first two games," said Gaber. "We kind of found our groove and started rolling in game three, and we kinda never looked back."

Special teams came up clutch for the Pistons, especially a man down. They killed 23 of 24 penalties they picked up in the series, with the only goal against being in last night's win.

"Virden has a really good PP, and they take pride in that, but we found a way to shut them down," said Gaber. "We were able to build momentum from it. But, like I said before, you have to give a lot of credit to our PK unit, and our goaltender Thiessen was fantastic."

Gaber and the Pistons now await the winner of the SJHL which has the Nipawin Hawks leading Estevan, 3-2 in the first to four games. Game six goes tonight in Estevan.

"We're going to look forward to a very desperate, hard-working team," said Gaber. "Our main goal is to play our game, work hard and hopefully things go our way."

Gaber noted winning is one of the best feelings ever.

"We're a step closer to the National Championship which is super exciting," said Gaber. "We know every time we go on the ice we can win, so we're pumped up for the Anavet Cup."

Stay tuned for the Anavet Cup schedule when it becomes available.
