The Prairie Supply Co. Prairie Open took place Saturday with 53 competitors showing up.

A pair of Clippers volleyball teams finished fourth in weekend tournaments, and a Grandview Spartans team won it all in a local tournament.

The Grandview Spartans won their way to the final in an invitational tournament hosted by Gilbert Plains. The two teams met in the final Sunday, Grandview was the eventual victor.

Both Clippers varsity teams were in Brandon Friday and Saturday for tournaments. The girls team was competing in the Plainsmen Top 8 Debate tournament where they played for bronze against the Neelin Spartans, losing in two sets to finish fourth.

The boys team entered the BU High School Varsity Boys Tournament. They played Fort Richmond in the bronze medal game, and were also beaten in two sets to finish fourth. 

 

The Dauphin Kings finished off the preseason with a 3-1 over Neepawa Saturday to finished 2-4.

The biggest highlight for the Kings was goaltender Brandon Holtby by stopped 61 of 62 shots put on net in a first star performance. The lone goal he allowed came on the powerplay from Nathan Hillis.

The Kings opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Parker Simonson, assisted by Logan Nelson. 

Hillis' goal in the second period tied the game for the Natives.

Darren Gisti put the Kings back in front after receiving a feed from Simonson. Kelby Picard gave the Kings the insurance goal, Nelson picked up his second assist on the night.

The Kings start the regular season on Friday at Centennial Arena in Swan River when they take on the Swan Valley Stampeders, you can hear that game on CKDM. The Kings play their home opener on September 30th, also against Swan Valley. 

The Kings visit Neepawa tonight for their last game of the MJHL preseason, you can listen along on 730 CKDM. Pregame show starts at 7:20.

 

A number of high school teams are in action as teams take to the courts and fields this weekend.

In the Rural Manitoba Football League on Friday the Dauphin Clippers are taking on the Parkwest Outlaws. Swan Valley plays the Moosomin Generals, and the East Parkland Warriors grapple with the SouthWest Sabres. Outside the Parkland the Virden Bears host the Neepawa Tigers.

The Dauphin Clippers girls varsity volleyball team is attending the Plainsmen Top 8 Debate Tournament in Brandon today and tomorrow. They open the tournament against the Crocus Plainsmen Friday at 3:00. The Clippers also play round robin games later at 5:00, 7:00, and 9:00pm. 

Elsewhere in Parkland high school volleyball the Gilbert Plains Trojans varsity girls are hosting an invitational tournament Friday and Saturday. The tournament features a majority of Parkland teams including Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Swan Valley, Goose Lake High, Ste. Rose, and Ebb and Flow.
