She loves basketball and her goal is to play at the next level.
When she's on the court, it's all business and there is no greater feeling than sinking a basket, whether it be from beyond the arc or a layup. Aubrey Carr started playing basketball in grade seven at Mackenzie Middle School and wishes she would have started playing earlier.
It hasn't always been easy. It takes time and patience when learning a new craft and there will be times when frustration creeps in. This, at times, has been the case for the Dauphin star, but Aubrey has always remained committed to getting better and she always has a smile on her face.
As Aubrey enjoys her summer spending time with family and friends, Carr continues to work hard on the court in preparation for one of the greatest challenges that she has faced to date in basketball. Aubrey has been named to Team 14U West for the basketball competition as a part of the Manitoba Summer Games that run from August 11-14.
Carr is thrilled about the opportunity and thankful to have been given the chance.
"It feels great. Like my dream is to play university basketball," said Carr. "I feel as if this is a step towards that. It gives me a chance to play against the best age-eligible players in the province."
For some, going up against top-end players is a daunting task. For Aubrey, she embraces the chance to go up against the best while representing her region.
"I'm very much looking forward to playing against some of the best players in the province at my age level," commented Carr.
The female basketball event will be during Phase 2, August 11-14 at the Dauphin Curling Club, inside the Parkland Rec Complex. The team has been practicing for several weeks already and they're coming together quite nicely ahead of their journey to gold.
"We're excellent at communication, I would say we work very well as a team," ended Carr.
Carr says fans can look forward to her smooth dribbling skills and nice touch around the rim. There is no admission fee for any of the events, except needing a parking pass to watch the triathlon at Riding Mountain National Park (RMNP) and the sailing event at Manipogo Provincial Park.
