GAMES FINALE: August 17 - 3:00 p.m.
Dauphin and area has pulled it off. There's no surprise, but there is a lot to be proud of. It was a week to remember as the Manitoba Summer Games, Powered by Manitoba Hydro, were an overwhelming success as more than 1600 athletes from across the province, dozens of which were from the Parkland, embarked on Manitoba's biggest sporting event.
Rugby:
Aaron Miner said anything less than a gold medal would be a disappointment. He knew his rugby 7s team had the skill and heart to achieve special things and that is exactly what they did at KIN Field during Phase 2 of the Games.
Suiting up as West Green, the team full of Parkland talent downed Winnipeg Gold, 29-7, on Saturday morning as they won a gold medal in front of their family and friends right here at home. West Green dominated from start to finish and achieved their ultimate goal.
"Without motivation, there is no sacrifice, without sacrifice, there is no discipline, and without discipline, there is no success," offered Miner after the contest. "This group was motivated from the beginning. Finishing second was not in their vocabulary, I am so incredibly proud of each and every member of this team."
The gold medal winning team featured Ben Miner, Colton Miner, Julien Lopez, Mitch Vandekerckhove, Nathanial Okanese-Brezden, Will Busby, Logan Sanderson, Morgan Fleck, Sully Fox, Blake Symchych, Alexander Thompson, and Jordan Evans.
In the women's competition, Team West Orange started firing on all cylinders when they needed to as they captured a bronze medal.
After dropping their first three games of the tournament, they won their final round robin game which qualified them for a qualification game. The team's roster consisted of Ruth Dandeneau, Ruth Evans, Paityn Bourgouin, Kierstin Vandekerckhove, Jade Toews, Victoria Carter, Samantha Gryba, Bella Williams, Mila Heschuk, and Felicity Sahulka.
After beating Winnipeg Blue, 27-0, on Saturday morning, the team came up short in their semi-final against West Green. With a bronze medal on the line, Team Parkland came up clutch defensively and did enough offensively in a 17-0 win.
West Green then won the gold medal in a 15-12 victory against Winnipeg Gold.
Soccer:
In a thrilling gold medal match against Winnipeg Blue, West #2 came up short in the U14 event in a 2-1 defeat. The team included Hayden Robert Brown, Travis Lamb, Garret Melvin, William Melvin, and Mason Graham, all of Minnedosa. The team also featured athletes from Brandon, Carberry and Souris.
Basketball:
Rhea Koshel of Neepawa helped the 16U/17U women's team secure a silver medal.
In a tightly contested gold medal match against Winnipeg Blue, West #2 dropped a 40-38 contest.

It was Team West strong. The Parkland came to play and it showed in the final medal standings.
More than a thousand fans and all Phase 2 athletes then packed inside Credit Union Place for the Closing Ceremonies on Saturday and it was another incredible atmosphere and capped off a week to remember for Manitoba sport athletes and fans.
Carla Wolfenden and Clayton Swanton, who served as the two co-chairs for the event, will join Justin Allin, Jeff Henson, and Darnell Duff on Wednesday morning at 8:15.

It was another great day for Parkland athletes as the Manitoba Summer Games, Powered by Manitoba Hydro, entered its second final day of competition in Dauphin and the area.
Athletics:
Ella June Stewart of Gladstone won gold in the U14 female pentathlon event at the Myles Haverluck Athletics Facility. Owen Gonty; meanwhile, claimed bronze in the U16 male javelin event.
Gonty also secured a silver medal in the U16 pentathlon event while for the second straight day, Ava Grace Thompson of Ste. Rose fired on all cylinders as she won a silver medal in the U14 ball throw competition. Kira Koshel of Neepawa won silver in the U16 female pentathlon race while Team West A won silver in the 4x100m relay U16 race.
Quentin Pelletier came to play on Friday as he secured a pair of bronze medals, one in the U16 discus event and U16 javelin event. Lucas Scout Vigini of Grandview won bronze in the U14 high jump while Kacey Lola McKim of Rossburn claimed a bronze in the U14 80m race.
West A won bronze in both the 4x100m U14 relay race and 4x100m U16 relay race. They also claimed bronze in the 4x200m U14 mixed race and West B won a bronze in the 4x200m U16 mix race.
Rugby:
They're playing for a gold medal on Saturday morning.
Suiting up on Team West Green at KIN Field, Ben Miner, Colton Miner, Julien Lopez, Mitch Vandekerckhove, Nathanial Okanese-Brezden, Will Busby, Logan Sanderson, Morgan Fleck, Sully Fox, Blake Symchych, Alexander Thompson, and Jordan Evans have advanced directly to the gold medal match after winning three of their four round-robin matches.
They will play either West Orange or Winnipeg Gold, two teams that they have already beat this tournament.
On the women's side, Team West Orange will have to get on a roll if they want to reach the podium.
Ruth Dandeneau, Ruth Evans, Paityn Bourgouin, Kierstin Vandekerckhove, Jade Toews, Victoria Carter, Samantha Gryba, Bella Williams, Mila Heschuk, and Felicity Sahulka will play in a qualification game on Saturday morning at 8:00 and should they win that game, they will advance to the semi-final against West Green at 8:20.
Their qualification game will come against Winnipeg Blue, a team they downed 20-7 in their final round-robin game on Friday afternoon.
Basketball:
West 1 which is made up of mainly athletes from Brandon will play in the female gold medal match on Saturday at 10:45.
Medal Race:
Team West sits in third place in the overall medal standings heading into Saturday.
Credit Union Place will then play host to the Closing Ceremonies on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 with the doors opening at 1:00.
UPDATE 9: August 15 - 6:00 p.m.
Rugby:
Nothing will come easy the rest of the way, but Team West Green has put themselves in a great spot heading into day two of the rugby competition at KIN Field.
The team that includes Ben Miner, Colton Miner, Julien Lopez, Mitch Vandekerckhove, Nathanial Okanese-Brezden, Will Busby, Logan Sanderson, Morgan Fleck, Sully Fox, Blake Symchych, Alex Thompson, and Jordan Evans won both of their games on day one of Phase 2 and showed how dominant they could be in the process.
Following a 27-0 win to open their event, the team downed Winnipeg Gold, 22-10, on Thursday afternoon. With a 2-0 record, they will once again play Winnipeg Gold and West Orange to wrap up their round-robin on Friday. Those games are at 9:00 a.m. and noon.
In the women's event, West Orange, which features Ruth Dandeneau, Ruth Evans, Paityn Bourgouin, Kierstin Vandekerckhove, Jade Toews, Victoria Carter, Samantha Gryba, Bella Williams, Mila Heschuk, and Felicity Sahulka were winless on the opening day.
They will now play at 11:00 and 1:30 on Friday.
Soccer:
Team West #1 dropped both of their games on Thursday, against Winnipeg Blue and South #1.
On the team are Noah Myhre, Cam Ash, Eli Fawcett, Shaun Genaille-Young, Brennan Lippens, Ryder Formo, James Gemmill, Ryder Rodriguez, Joseph Nelson, Malaykai Aaron Andrews, Braeden Bankert, Jesse Slyziuk, Jolen Drew Johnson, Mikey Maksymetz, Al-Ameen Adediran, Carter Blake Komar Scott, and Joseph Chan.
They will play Winnipeg Gold at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Vermillion Sportsplex.
Athletics:
Team West added five gold medals on day one of the competition at Myles Haverluck Athletics Facility.
Kacey Lola McKim of Rossburn won a pair of gold medals, after winning the 14U high jump and 14U long jump events. Quentin Pelletier of Dauphin won a gold medal in the U16 shot put event.
Lola McKim also won a silver medal in the U14 150m competition while Ava Grace Thompson of Ste. Rose was on fire as she secured a silver medal in the U14 shot put event.

With two days remaining in the 2024 Manitoba Summer Games, Powered by Manitoba Hydro, Team West will look to chase down the competition and finish on the podium in the overall medal standings while Team Winnipeg Blue will look to continue rolling on Friday.

Athletics:
A star from Langruth has won a gold medal.
Stacie Lynn Czeranko won gold in the javelin U16 female competition on Thursday morning at the Myles Haverluck Athletic Facility. Team West now has four gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze.
Rugby:
Several Parkland athletes opened up their competition at Vermillion Sportsplex with a 21-17 defeat against South on Thursday morning. The U17 female team includes Ruth Dandeneau, Ruth Evans, Paityn Bourgouin, Kierstin Vandekerckhove, Jade Toews, Victoria Carter, Samantha Gryba, Bella Williams, Mila Heschuk, and Felicity Sahulka.
On the men's side, it was an incredible start for Team West Green as they hammered Winnipeg Gold, 27-0. That team includes Ben Miner, Colton Miner, Julien Lopez, Mitch Vandekerckhove, Nathanial Okanese-Brezden, Will Busby, Logan Sanderson, Morgan Fleck, Sully Fox, Blake Symchych, and Jordan Evans.

It has already been a week to remember in Dauphin and the area.
The Manitoba Summer Games, Powered by Manitoba Hydro, are well in session and Phase 1 has now come to an end.
After the first three days, Team West is in a great spot.
Of note from Phase 1, Meredith Cottrell won a silver medal in the 50m breastroke junior female race. Two of Team West's gold medals also came in the pool in the 4x50m medley relay and the 4x50m free relay.
Sophie Saquet of Neepawa nabbed a pair of silver medals, one in the individual short track mountain bike U15 race at Northgate Trails and the individual cross country mountain bike U15 race. Team West Green also won a bronze medal in the men's volleyball competition while Cottrell also won a bronze in the 100m freestyle junior female race.

Phase 2 will now take over centre stage on Thursday which includes the female basketball event at the Dauphin Curling Club. That event is being played on the Winnipeg Sea Bears court.

UPDATE 6: August 14 - 12:40 p.m.
Juris Luna will never forget this week and he's heading back to Neepawa with a gold medal around his neck.
Playing on Team West 1 this week in the basketball event at the Dauphin Curling Club, Luna helped his team down Winnipeg Gold, 78-57, in the gold medal match on Wednesday morning. The win capped off a perfect event for the team as they won all four of their matches.
The remainder of the roster was made up of seven stars from Brandon, two from Souris, and two from Carberry.
Baseball:
Over on the diamond, fans were treated to an outstanding bronze medal match. Winnipeg Blue scored 10 runs in the third and despite a great comeback effort from Team East, Team Blue held on for a 16-14 win.
Volleyball:
Team South White lost the first set in the gold medal in the women's competition. They then won the second and capped off the event with a 15-6 victory in the third set to win the gold medal in front of a great crowd at Credit Union Place.
UPDATE 5 : August 14 - 10:00 a.m.
Baseball:
Despite coming up short Wednesday morning at Vermillion Sportsplex in the baseball competition, Kellen Hockin of Neepawa and Reid William Klym of Minnedosa have added to Team West's medal count at the Games. Team South 1 won the gold medal in convincing fashion with a final score of 16-1.
With their silver medal, Team West now has 30 medals, 16 of which are bronze, 12 are silver, and two are gold.
Volleyball:
Team West Green has captured a bronze medal in the U14 men's volleyball competition which is being held at Credit Union Place. Going up against Team East in the third place match, the two teams split the first two sets.
West Green then held off East in the third and deciding set with a 15-13 win. Team West now has 15 bronze medals, paired with 12 silver, and 2 gold.
Taedyn Solski, Danielle Laliberte, Meadow Vigini, Tiana Sanko, Lily Montagnion, Connelly McDonald, Paige Hanke, McKenlie Breland, Brookelynn Hess, and Londyn McCallum will have to settle for a fourth place finish at the Games.
They lost a heartbreaking three-set battle against Winnipeg Gold, 19-25, 25-23, and 15-17. The gold medal match between South White and Winnipeg Blue is currently under the bright lights at Credit Union Place.
UPDATE 4 : August 13 - 9:00 p.m.
Team West nabbed their second gold medal of the Games on Tuesday.
They won the 4x50m free relay youth male race at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre. West is second in the medal standings with two gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze. That gives them a total of 28, three more than what Winnipeg Gold has and Winnipeg Blue leads the way with 52 medals.
Basketball:
West #1 in the men's basketball event continued to roll on Tuesday and they're now playing for a gold medal on Wednesday. They hammered Team East, 97-54, as they won all three of their games prior to the final. Wednesday's final will be at 10:45 at the Dauphin Curling Club.
West #2 capped off their tournament by beating Team North by 17 points on Tuesday afternoon.
Golf:
It was a thrilling finish that came down to the wire at the Gilbert Plains Country Club.
Adam Blair posted the best round of the day at 4-over 75 to come from behind for a one-stroke victory in the men's competition. He finished with a two-round score of 152 which bested Brady Comaskey by one stroke and Brayden Boge by two strokes. Boge had the overnight lead heading into Tuesday.
In the women's event, it was all Jeri Lafleche from start to finish. She followed up her 77 on Monday with a 78 on Tuesday to win the women's event by 16 strokes. Payton Oakden of Team West finished in second with rounds of 91 and 80 to capture silver.
Soccer:
West #1 beat North, 3-0, to finish in seventh place. West #2 lost the fifth place match against South #1.
The gold medal match saw Winnipeg Gold holding off Team East, 2-1.
Volleyball:
Taedyn Solski, Danielle Laliberte, Meadow Vigini, Tiana Sanko, Lily Montagnion, Connelly McDonald, Paige Hanke, McKenlie Breland, Londyn McCallum and the rest of Team West Orange will have to win their final game to earn a medal.
They came up short in their semi-final against Winnipeg Blue and they will now play in the bronze medal match on Wednesday morning at 8:30 against Winnipeg Gold.
The Manitoba Summer Games, Powered by Manitoba Hydro, continue Wednesday morning with the final day of Phase 1. Phase 2 will then begin on Thursday with athletics at the DRCSS track, basketball at the Dauphin Curling Club, rugby at Vermillion Sportsplex, sailing at Manipogo Provincial Park, softball at Vermillion Sportsplex, and triathlon in Clear Lake.
Don't forget to head to CN Park daily from 6:30-8:30 for the Party in the Park.

Volleyball:
Taedyn Solski, Danielle Laliberte, Meadow Vigini, Tiana Sanko, Lily Montagnion, Connelly McDonald, Paige Hanke, McKenlie Breland, Londyn McCallum and the rest of Team West Orange are semi-final bound.
In a thrilling match against Team East on Tuesday morning, they dropped the first set. Team West, all full of Parkland talent, would respond as they clinched the second set 25-14 and capped off the match with a 15-12 third set victory. Their semi-final is now at 3:50 at Credit Union Place.
Cycling:
Already with a silver medal under his belt, Jordy Gordon Loewen of Neepawa put together another strong performance.
He finished third in the Cross Country Mountain Bike U13 race at the Northgate Trails. He finished the race in 35:17.

Baseball:
On the ball diamond, Team West #1 are perfect after winning both of their games. They first secured a 15-2 win against Winnipeg Gold before downing East #1, 9-8. They are tied with South #1, who they will play on Tuesday morning for first place in Pool A.
Team West #2 which includes Jude Jessie Carr and Jayden Ford of Neepawa are 1-0 after day one, they will play twice on Tuesday. They beat East #2 in their lone game on Monday, 11-6.
Basketball:
Team West #1, which includes Juris Luna of Neepawa, won both of their games on Monday. They beat Winnipeg Blue by six and then hammered Winnipeg Gold by 17 points.
Cycling:
It was Neepawa strong on day one at Northgate Trails. Jordy Gordon Loewen of Neepawa finished with a silver medal in the U13 short mountain bike race. Sophie Saquet, also of Neepawa, won a silver medal in the U15 female short mountain bike race.
Golf:
Over at the Gilbert Plains Country Club, Brayden Boge of Winnipeg will take a one stroke lead into Tuesday's final round after shooting a 3-over 74. He leads by one stroke over Brady Comaskey. Adam Blair and Ryder St. Laurent are three strokes back.
The ladies event will see Jeri Lafleche, who frequents the Clear Lake Golf Course, holding a 14 stroke lead heading into Tuesday. Round two begins at 10:00 a.m.
Soccer:
In the U14 female division, West #2 beat West #1, 2-1, in the final game of the day. They now have a win and a loss entering Tuesday. West #1 includes Aimee Steel, Heather Nadolny, Ava Pidskalny, and Kylie Barker.
Swimming:
It was Meredith Cottrell strong.
The Dauphin swimmer and member of the Parkland Gators Swim Club won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke. She finished with a time of just more than 50 seconds in the great performance.
Volleyball:
Credit Union Place has been turned into a volleyball paradise this week and Team West Orange had an incredible day.
They won both of their matches and join Winnipeg Blue on top of the leaderboard heading into Tuesday.
The team includes Taedyn Solski, Danielle Laliberte, Meadow Vigini, Tiana Sanko, Lily Montagnion, Connelly McDonald, Paige Hanke, McKenlie Breland, Brookelynn Hess, and Londyn McCallum. They will now play in a quarterfinal on Tuesday morning.

Swimming:
Evan Favel of Dauphin competed in the 100m backstroke event at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre on Monday morning.
She finished the race in 1:58.
Male Basketball:
Team West lost to Winnipeg Gold, 89-57.
The team includes Julien Lopez, Gabe Beaudin, Sam Delaurier, Tyrell Delaronde, Ryder Waggoner, Morgan Fleck, Jayden Thompson, Ronin Mouck, Owen Gonty, Parker Schau, and Jaxon Larocque.
Female Soccer:
Team West 1 lost their opening match to South 2, 4-1.
