Tolko Gets Letter of Intent for Purchase of The Pas Mill
Tolko Industries says it has received a signed letter of intent from a potential buyer for its pulp and paper mill in The Pas.
Jim Baskerville, Tolko's vice-president, told The Winnipeg Free Press that the letter of intent is not a guarantee of a sale, but "it's an important first step.''
Tolko announced last month that it was closing the mill on December 2nd because it is no longer financially viable.
More than 300 people will be out of a job if the mill closes as planned.

Victims of Home Invasion Don't Know Why It Happened to Them
A Manitoba couple say they have no idea why armed intruders kicked down their back door and pointed a gun at one of them.
Police in Brandon are searching for two men who forced their way into the home in Brandon on Sunday afternoon.
The husband and wife, who don't want to be identified, told CTV that two other men tried to get in their front door, but they left after the husband said there was a little baby inside.
While police were at their home, shots rang out at a home about a block away, and police were able to take two men into custody, but they are still searching for two more.

Ste Rose Turning Itself Into a Western
Ste Rose will soon be setting up for Hoof n Holler.
Organizer Ashley Vandepoele says the parade and storefront theme this year is western glam.
She says they're about to get the town started with decorating.
"All of our Main Street storefronts and some of our businesses even off of Main Street this year have opted in, so it's kind of exciting."
Vandepoele also says Hoof n Holler is a full-family event and a really nice weekend. One of the activities running Sunday is Bessie Bingo.
"Where you can, in advance, buy a slot on a board, and that slot is numbered, and we put that number of pie plates into a small arena, so into some panels, and we put Bessie -- actually our cow this year, her name is Missy -- we put Missy into the panels. Where Missy goes to the washroom that day is where the prize will be given."

Shomi Getting Cancelled
The two-year-old video-on-demand service Shomi is getting its plug pulled in a couple of months.
The company cites drastic changes in the online video marketplace and business climate in general as reasons for cancelling the enterprise at the end of November.
Rogers and Shaw launched Shomi in November 2014, offering it first to the companies' TV and Internet subscribers.
But it was expanded to all Canadians in May 2015 as it tried to compete with Netflix and other similar web-streaming services.
