Sneh Seetal, says the refinery in Edmonton that produces most of the gasoline and diesel will be opening back up.

"By the end of this week is when the Edmonton refinery is expected to be back in service and our oil sands operations are also going to be restarting and being brought back into service, and we anticipate that by the end of this week as well."

Seetal says they have a plan in place.

"We are dedicated to replenishing quickly as possible and we have that team of people that have been looking at all options to manage the supply. We have a plan in place that manages and maintains supply at critical locations so we minimize the impact on customers."

Stations in Winnipeg and a station in Brandon saw shortages.

Suncor had been securing additional gas from outside their network and from other companies and moving it by truck and rail to minimize the impact on their customers.

"We do know that customers have been very patient as we deal with this situation, and we thank them for their patients and apologize for the inconvenience" says Seetal.

The shortage was due to the Fort McMurray wildfire and an unplanned outage at the Edmonton refinery that lead to fuel shortages across Western Canada.
