Expanded cell phone service and broadband Internet coverage, investments in Parkland roads, and upgrades to programs at the DRCSS are some of the latest promises being made by Manitoba's NDP party.

NDP leader Greg Selinger was joined by Dauphin candidate Darcy Scheller and Swan River incumbent Ron Kostyshyn at Mackenzie Middle School earlier today.

Scheller called the announcements tremendous for the area.

"There's so many things that are going to benefit the Dauphin community, from Roblin all the way to Ochre River and Laurier, so I'm really happy with what the announcements have been today," says Scheller.

Speaking of the plan for Dauphin's high school, Selinger says there is a huge demand for qualified tradespeople in rural Manitoba.

"When we have a strong base of skilled tradespeople in an area, that allows the economy to grow, it gives them good jobs and the ability to set up businesses as well," says Selinger.

The upgraded carpentry shop would allow students to build a ready-to-move home as part of their training.

Some of the infrastructure projects listed include $75-million worth of work on Highway 5, which includes paving, resurfacing, intersection improvements, and bridge repair. The NDP are also pledging work on highways 10, 20, and 83.
