The Gilbert Plains Mustangs grade eight girls volleyball team is travelling back from Manitoba's capital with a provincial banner.

In Winnipeg for the provincial championships, the Mustangs proved that if you never give up, great things can happen. After placing second in their pool, Gilbert Plains played the top-ranked Holy Ghost team in the quarterfinals and the Mustangs came out on top.

After a dominating straight set victory against Ste. Agathe in their Final 4 match, the Mustangs were championship bound and what a comeback it was.

The Mustangs dropped the first set, 25-17, and they were down 12-2 in the second set. Gilbert Plains mounted an improbable comeback to win the second set 25-23 and in a nailbiting third set, the Mustangs won, 15-13, to win provincial gold.
