Two stranded snowmobilers had to be rescued over the weekend and it was their preparedness that got them through it, according to RCMP.

The men, aged 29 and 42 from Winnipeg, had been snowmobiling in Spruce Woods Provincial Park on Saturday, and called 911 around 8:30 at night, having got lost on the trails.

Police say they were lost for more than six hours. They were dressed for the weather and were able to start a fire, as temperatures hit -35 Celsius.

RCMP say the men survived because they were prepared.
