Get ready for a season filled with nail-biting moments, intense rivalries, and gridiron excitement. The 2024 CFL season is set to deliver unforgettable experiences for fans across the nation!

This season has been a game-changer for Conor Geekie in the Western Hockey League, and now he's gearing up to play a crucial role in helping his country snag a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.

Hailing from Strathclair, Geekie earned a coveted spot on the Canadian men's roster following an eventful selection camp that wrapped up with a 6-1 defeat against an all-star team comprising USports players.

Among the 12 forwards on the team, Geekie is sharing the spotlight with standout Nate Danielson, currently making waves with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Joining them are Matthew Savoie, Geekie's teammate in Wenatchee, and Macklin Celebrini, among others.

The Canadian squad is set to embark on an overseas adventure as they gear up for the World Juniors, kicking off on Boxing Day in Gothenburg, Sweden. Canada's title defense begins on December 26 at 7:30 a.m. in a showdown against Team Finland.

Geekie's journey into the roster was practically a shoe-in, especially after his recent show-stopping feat of scoring four consecutive goals in a spectacular Wenatchee comeback. This season, the Arizona Coyotes' first-overall draft pick boasts an impressive tally of 20 goals and 29 assists.

Despite missing the next month due to Team Canada commitments, Geekie is poised to surpass last year's 77-point performance, contributing significantly to one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

Emma Jensen, Lane Prokopowich, Becky Friesen, and Stephanie Feeleus are set to play for the biggest prize in Manitoba women's curling.

The foursome has qualified for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts which will take place from January 23-28 in Morden. It features the best teams in the province all battling to win a buffalo which qualifies the one final winning team a spot in the national championship, Team Jensen downed Team Terrick of the Parkland, 6-5, in a qualifier game.

Despite the loss, Team Terrick still had a chance to qualify for the provincial event and Zoey, Cassidy Dundas, Tessa Terrick, and Jensen Letham have done just that.

Team Terrick scored five points in the seventh end as they went onto a convincing 12-3 win against Team Bevan.

Zoey, Cassidy, Tessa, and Jensen will now join Team Jensen in Morden.

Emmalie Thompson has returned to the ice with the Assiniboine Community College Cougars women's hockey team, and they're having an absolutely stellar season so far!

Competing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's women's division two, the Cougars have triumphed in all 12 of their games. Over these matches, Thompson and her teammates have allowed a mere five goals while scoring an impressive 80. Their defense, with only five goals against, is the best in the country, and their 80 goals scored rank near the top nationally.

Emmalie, who secured a national title with ACC two seasons ago, is truly living her dream.

Describing the current team, Thompson exclaims,

"This year's team is incredibly well-rounded; every line is strong and productive. We're not just teammates; we're great friends who love being around each other. The chemistry is fantastic."

A proud native of Ste. Rose, Emmalie highlights the joy of traveling around the United States as one of the perks of being a Cougar. ACC stands out as the only Canadian club in the independent division and, in fact, the only Canadian club across all 10 divisions.

As the team excels, so does Emmalie individually. The third-year forward leads her team with an impressive 23 points in just 12 games, averaging 1.92 points per game. Thompson has netted eight goals and provided 15 assists.

Even when considering division one clubs, Emmalie is tied for 21st in league scoring. Humble about her success, she attributes much of the credit to her teammates, noting,

"I work as hard as I possibly can for my team. A lot of the credit has to go to my teammates. They have finished off 15 of my passes, so that's important. I'm very pleased with how I am playing, and I have some incredible teammates around me."

Emmalie's outstanding performance has earned her the title of Cougar of the Month at ACC, joining Kylee Peake as the second Parkland star to win the award in December for stellar play in volleyball.

Reflecting on the recognition, Thompson shares,

"It's very nice to be recognized; there are a ton of great athletes here at ACC. So to be noticed is pretty great, it's a special feeling. It's also pretty cool for me to be able to say that I'm an athlete of the month."

As the Christmas break approaches, Emmalie looks forward to returning to the ice for two home games on January 13 and 14, where the Cougars will host the Lake Region State College team at J&G Homes Arena in Brandon.

Another rising star from Parkland has officially joined the Western Hockey League, bringing more excitement to the ice.

Following Jaxon Jacobson's standout performance, where the 14-year-old scored two goals in his WHL debut with Brandon, another talent from McCreary has made a significant move to the team. Brady Turko has inked a standard WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Wheat Kings.

Turko, currently in his second year with the U18 Wheat Kings, is setting the ice ablaze with an impressive record of 14 goals and 34 points in just 20 games. Notably, he was selected 97th overall by Brandon in the 2022 draft.

Looking back, Turko showcased his prowess two years ago with an outstanding performance, amassing 81 points in 32 games while playing for the U15 Wheat Kings. The future looks bright for this talented player.

In summary, the Parkland U18 Rangers fell short of their weekend sweep goal, losing a close 4-3 game to the Thrashers after a significant win against the Winnipeg Bruins.

Cash Clarkson, Hayden Seib, and Linden Smigeksly contributed goals in the effort. With a record of 8-10-2, Parkland is currently one point behind Eastman for the final playoff spot.

On another note, the U15 Rangers engaged in an entertaining 7-4 match against the Brandon Wheat Kings, with goals scored by Dayson Martin, Noah Smigelsky, Carter Moncrief, and Ashton Dutkewich.

Despite the loss, Parkland remains on a positive trajectory, showcasing strong performance and optimism for future success.

The Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy U15 Kings are champions.

Hosting a tournament at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena, Dauphin capped off a championship run with a 3-1 win over the Weyburn Wings in the final.

Dauphin also beat McDonald 12-0 and the Winnipeg Raiders, 7-4. The Niverville Jets; meanwhile, beat the Beasujour Blades in the A1 final.

Team Todoruk of the Dauphin Curling Club are off to the Viterra Championships, as are Team Toews.

Hosting the Viterra qualifier this weekend in Dauphin, Team Todoruk which includes Terron Stykalo, Rob Fisher, Darcy Todoruk, and Greg Todoruk won back-to-back games to qualify. Team Toews; meanwhile, consisting of Logan Devos, Cory Toews, Nick Ogryzlo, and Glenn Toews won three of their four games to earn a spot.

On the women's side, Tamara Kolida, Stacy Sime, Morgan Kropelnicki, and Tiffany Armstrong have also booked their provincial spot. They have qualified for the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

They beat Team Ursel 10-6 in their first game and then 11 to 1 in the best of three series.

The Dauphin Kings, for the second time in a matter of five days, fell to a West Division opponent.

On home ice for Tractor Lotto Sunday, the Oil Capitals scored the game winning goal just 45 seconds into the third period in a 4-3 win against the Kings. Dauphin once again struggled while a man up as they failed to score a power play goal across two chances while they also struggled on the penalty kill, going just 2-for-4

Dauphin did show signs of brilliance in the game as they came back from a three-goal deficit as they were down 3-0. Ultimately, it was the Oil Capitals that won the game.

With the win, Virden is now nine points ahead of Dauphin for first place in the West Division. The Kings also remain just a single point ahead of Neepawa for the fourth playoff spot. Dauphin is still 11 points clear of dropping out of a playoff spot.

The Dauphin Kings lit up the rink with enthusiasm in a fantastic third period, leaving the Winnipeg Blues behind on Saturday night.

Locked in a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes, the game took a thrilling turn when Rylan Gibbs netted the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the third period, securing a joyful 4-1 victory against the Blues.

The third period continued to sparkle with goals from Alex Senf and Logan Walker, adding to the team's jubilation. Moreover, the spirited Jordan Bax earned the title of the 2023 Teddy Bear Man.

Looking ahead, Dauphin is set to host Virden on Sunday at 4, promising another exciting matchup for fans to cheer about.

Following a triumphant victory against the Winnipeg Thrashers in their previous matchup, the Parkland U18 Rangers have once again emerged victorious against a top-tier team.

Seizing a playoff spot, the Rangers clinched a thrilling 3-2 shootout win against the third-placed Winnipeg Bruins.

Dauphin's goaltender, Chase Glover, displayed exceptional skill with 35 saves during the game. Cade Legaarden and Cash Clarkson showcased their scoring prowess for Parkland in regulation.

The shootout saw contributions from Quinten Fisk and Legaarden, solidifying Parkland's record at 8-9-2 for the season. With an upcoming game against the Thrashers tomorrow, the Rangers are poised for another exciting contest.
