Kyle Walters is remaining with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Canadian Football League club announced on Tuesday that they have signed Walters to a two-year contract extension. Walters has been the Blue Bombers' general manager since 2013. Winnipeg also announced that assistant general manager and director of U.S. scouting Danny McManus and senior assistant general manager and director of player personnel Ted Goveia will also remain with the team.

During his nine seasons at the helm of the Blue & Gold, Kyle has gone 98-72 with a pair of West Division and Grey Cup titles to his name. Walters has led the Bombers to four straight Grey Cup championship games, coming up short in the past two.

Next year will be McManus' 10th with Winnipeg while Goveia will also be entering his 10th season with the Bombers.

Next up for the organization is free agency and they will be looking to lock up some very key pieces. Contracts of Brady Oliveira (Most Outstanding Canadian), Rasheed Bailey, and Jermarcus Hardrick (Most Outstanding Lineman), alongside Jackson Jeffcoat and Willie Jefferson, are all set to expire.

Oliveira has expressed his interest in joining an NFL club; however, he also said he is very much open to returning to play for Winnipeg if his NFL dreams don't pan out.

Several Parkland volleyball stars are off to Winnipeg for Volleyball Manitoba's graduating all-star games.

The Neepawa Titans have caught fire as of late and a player on their team that has helped them do so has been recognized.

Carter McLeod, a 19-year-old forward, has been named an Original 16 Player of the Week. In three games last week, McLeod scored three times and added two assists. McLeod leads Neepawa in scoring this season with 11 goals and 13 assists as he's averaging a point per game.

The Titans have reeled off wins in five of their last six games and they now have a three-point lead over Waywayseecappo for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.

The Titans recently beat the Niverville Nighthawks in back-to-back games and most recently, five different Titans scored in an impressive 5-3 win against the Portage Terriers. Earning 10 points out of a possible 12 over their past six games, Neepawa is one of the hardest-working teams in the league and they are especially difficult to play against at the Yellowhead Centre.

Goaltending is also a strong suit of the team, led by Mason Lobreau. Widely regarded as one of the top goalies in the MJHL, the former AAA standout gives the Titans an opportunity to win every time he's between the pipes.

On several occasions this season, Lobreau has faced more than 40 shots while adding up a stingy .913 save percentage. KC Couckuyt; meanwhile, got off to a slow start but he has been firing on all cylinders as of late.

Across his last two starts, KC has made 60 saves, not allowing a goal, in recording two straight shutouts against Selkirk and the Winnipeg Blues. The return of Hayden Stocks has also been a massive addition to the roster.

A 20-year-old from Edmonton, Hayden scored 31 times last year before starting this year in the North American Hockey League where he played three games with the Minot Minotauros which was followed up by scoring twice while adding two helpers in 10 games with the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks.

Since returning to Neepawa, Stocks has scored eight times in nine games and he has 10 points. Now with a little bit of cushion in the West, Neepawa will look to continue moving in the right direction on Wednesday when they head to Tundra Oil & Gas Place to play Virden which is followed up with a trip to Swan Valley on Friday.

The Titans then begin a four-game homestand from December 2 to 10 which sees them play Waywayseecappo twice, the Freeze once, and Steinbach once.

To note, Neepawa also opens 2024 with six straight games and seven of eight on home ice.

Credit Union Place will be the venue of this week's Manitoba High School Athletic Association's (MHSAA) varsity boys' and girls' AAA provincial championships.

12 boys teams and 12 girls teams will all battle for a provincial title.

On the boys' side, the Dauphin Clippers will play their first game on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. on court two against Stonewall. Dauphin then plays on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. against R.D. Parker before wrapping up their round-robin on Friday morning at 10:00 against Beliveau Barracudas.

The Flin Flon Bombers are right where they were last week in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 rankings.

Following a weekend in which they earned five of a possible six points on a three-game road trip, the Bombers are ranked number one in the country. Flin Flon has won 20 of their 23 games this year and they have just one loss in regulation this season. The Bombers are five points clear of Battlefords for first in the league and they have three games in hand.

The Bombers have made the league final in four of the past six seasons.

In the Manitoba Junior Hockey League; meanwhile, three teams are ranked in the Top 20, and two are honourable mentions.

#4 - Steinbach Pistons (19-2-1)

The Pistons pace the MJHL's league standings with wins in nine straight games. Steinbach has used a very balanced approach to find success this season as six players have recorded at least 20 points and another seven have at least 10 points.

Cole Plowman has also been outstanding in net for the Pistons, winning 13 of his 15 starts and he has a sparkling .938 save percentage to go along with a 1.78 goals-against average. Steinbach is the defending league champions and they will once again be the team to beat this season.

Coming up: vs Dauphin (December 02), @ Portage (December 03) @ Virden (December 07), vs Portage (December 08), @ Neepawa (December 10)

#6 - Winkler Flyers (16-3-0-1)

To say Winkler is strong defensively would be an understatement. Across their 20 games, the Flyers have given up just 35 goals while finding the back of the net 86 times which also ranks near the top of the league.

Just a few years removed from scoring 46 goals with the Parkland Rangers, Jayce Legaarden continues to produce with the Flyers, scoring nine goals and adding nine assists in 19 games. Trent Penner has paced Winkler's offence with 26 points while 12 other skaters have produced at least 10 points apiece. Winkler also boasts the best goaltending duo in the league in Liam Ernst and Malachi Klassen. Ernst has won seven of his eight games with a .942 save percentage to go along with a 1.25 goals-against average while Klassen has won nine of his starts with a .913 save percentage and a 1.88 goals-against average.

Coming up: @ Niverville (November 29), @ Virden (December 01), @ Waywayseecappo (December 06), vs Blizzard (December 08), vs Swan Valley (December 10)

#12 Virden Oil Capitals (15-5-1-1)

It's the first time Virden has been ranked in the Top 20 this season. With a winning percentage of .727, the Oil Capitals are on top of the West Division. Virden continues to prove that their appearance in the MJHL final last year was no fluke and this year's group is even better than they were last year. Of course, the experience gained by making the league final last year will only help as well.

Since a 3-2 loss against Virden back on November 4, the Oil Capitals have won five of their last six games. In their most recent outing, the Oil Capitals lost to the Blizzard, who will be in Dauphin on Tuesday night.

Coming up: vs Neepawa (November 29), vs Winkler (December 01), vs Blizzard (December 03), @ Dauphin (December 05), vs Steinbach (December 07)

The Dauphin Kings are honourable mentions this week as are the Portage Terriers.

A tough second period was the difference on Sunday.

The Dauphin Clippers gave up four goals in the second and could not come back from the deficit in a 7-4 loss against Vincent Massey. The Clippers led 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Tyron Sweetman, Ronin Mouck, Jesse Hockridge, and Cody Zurba scored for Dauphin in the game. It was the second straight game that Zurba found the back of the net.

The Parkland U18 Rangers earned their biggest win of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Wrapping up a weekend set against the Winnipeg Thrashers, Quinten Fisk scored with just 2:14 left in the third period in a 5-4 win. It was Quinten's second goal of the game and sixth of the season with Ethan Carnegie and Maddox Shindle picking up assists on the game winning goal.

Cade Legaarden scored his 10th of the season in the game while Shindle and Cash Clarkson also scored in the win. Chase Glover made 31 saves in net to record the win.

With the victory, the Rangers moved into a playoff spot. They next play on December 9 in Winnipeg.

Brayden Budolowski was the hero for the Parkland U15 Rangers on Saturday night.

On the road for a pair of games, Brayden scored the overtime winner in a 5-4 thrilling victory over the Interlake Lightning. It was an outstanding overall performance for the Rangers as they outshot Interlake, 65-35. It was Parkland's second straight win.

Ben Poole scored a pair of goals in the win while Dayson Martin and Sam Lacasse also scored for the Rangers. Xander Perih made 31 saves in the win.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rangers were unable to keep up with the Eastman Selects, who are one of the top teams in the league. The Selects racked up 56 shots compared to just 20 from the Rangers in a 6-3 double up of Parkland.

Ben Poole, Noah Smigelsky, and Noah Hanneson scored for Parkland in the defeat.

It was a great way to end the season for the Goose Lake Angels junior varsity girls volleyball season.

Competing in the A/AA provincial championships, the Raiders put together a great weekend and finished the season with a bronze medal. In the bronze medal match, the Angels beat St. Paul's (Elie) in straight sets, 25-11, and 25-16.

Goose Lake almost advanced to the gold medal match, before coming up just short to Warren in three sets in their semi-final, and Warren went on to win the provincial title.

Reese Graham of Roblin was named a tournament all-star.

The Dauphin Kings once again put forth a great effort and deserved more; however, they could only earn a point.

Joshua Schmidt scored Dauphin's only goal in a 2-1 overtime defeat against the Niverville Nighthawks. Dauphin has now lost both of their games against the Nighthawks this season after a 5-2 loss previously at the league's showcase.

Dauphin comes home after a two-game road trip with just one of a possible four points and the team has now lost four of their last five games. Despite this, a point on Saturday saw the team gain a point on Virden and they are only three points back of the Oil Capitals for first place in the West Division. Dauphin now has 29 points.

The Kings will welcome the Blizzard Junior A Hockey Club to Credit Union Place on Tuesday evening. Following that, the team will head back on the road next weekend for a pair of games at the University of Manitoba against Steinbach and at the Hockey for All Centre against the Winnipeg Blues.

The Parkland U18 Rangers had a two-goal lead after 20 minutes on Saturday, but the game really got away from them in the second period.

Opening a weekend on home ice against the Winnipeg Thrashers, Parkland gave up six goals in the second frame after taking a 4-2 lead into the midway period.

Ultimately, the Rangers were doubled up by the Thrashers (11-5), 10-5. Parkland was outshot in the contest, 41 to 28. Tavyn Boychuk had the hot stick for Parkland with a pair of goals while Cade Legaarden, Landyn Garton, and Hayden Seib also scored for Parkland in the defeat.

The Rangers dropped to 6-9-2, but they only remain a single point back of a playoff spot.
