The top U18 curling teams on the girls' and boys' sides will be in Timmins starting this weekend with the goal of winning a national championship.

The U18 Canadian Championships get underway on Sunday morning and the Parkland is included in the event. Representing Manitoba #2 is Team Grace Beaudry, a foursome that includes Tessa Terrick and Cassidy Dundas.

They earned their berth in the event after losing in the provincial final. Their first game is Sunday at 1 against Northwest Territories. They also play British Columbia #1, Ontario #2, New Brunswick #1, Northern Ontario #2, and Nova Scotia #1.

This will be Cassidy's second appearance at the event and she's looking forward to the experience.

"I'm very excited alongside my teammates," said Dundas. "I still have some nerves, but they have calmed down a bit. I know what to expect now and we're all looking forward to getting down to business."

The foursome won four straight games in dominating fashion at the provincial event. A loss against Team Wahl in their next game put the team on the brink of elimination; however, they responded in a 7-5 win against Team Hayward, putting them in the finals. That win earned the team its national berth.

"The national level is so competitive, everyone has the same mindset, they want to be national champions," ended Dundas. "It's going to be a great experience and a great atmosphere."
